Yeah I was playing poker and barely had time to turn to the damn screen before he blurted it out. Huge bet for me too. And you know what? I really liked Avatar, no hate here. I did not think the script was kiddie, a bit unoriginal perhaps but not immature simply because it contained fantasy/scifi elements. I just felt strongly that the Hurt Locker's superior realism and gripping suspense would give it a huge edge in such an award's ceremony.

Weird betting on an announcement. There is little time for suspense and you know instantly whether you have won or not. No guessing like we get to do with sports. No slow burning suspense and we watch teams battle and a winner start to become obvious gradually over time. That is what drives me nuts about betting on awards but enduring the slambang rush of instant knowledge of your result beats passing on these opportunities entirely, that is for sure.

(Not sure how to feel as I had the worst night of poker all year for myself last night concurrent with hitting these big bets. Only ended up netting a small profit last night. At least I had this as insulation I guess!)
