A must see for anyone that hasn't seen it..............nothing made these days compares. ........funny........sad........powerful
Jack Nicholson as Randle McMurphy in Cuckoo's Nest definately his BEST although I think that his "Bad Ass" Buddusky in The Last Detail, Jack Torrance in The Shining and "Jake" Gittes in Chinatown are all close seconds as was his "bit part" of the southern liberal lawyer George Hanson in East Rider which really launched his career. both The Last Detail and Chinatown have been on various TV movie channels lately.
a VERY underrated Nicholson western comedy is Goin' South (1978) where he plays the outlaw "Henry Moon". Cockoo's Nest actors Christopher Lloyd and Danny DeVito where also in that one early in their careers. VERY funny movie. it has one of Nicholson's best lines ever. to his former outlaw girlfriend played by Veronica Cartwright, "I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for you, Hermione. You was the first woman I ever had I didn't have to pay for".
and YES, most ANY Nicholson movie from the 1970's thru 1990's is better than just about ANYTHING produced now days except for his over-rated Five Easy Pieces (1970) which had just one memorable scene. I can't figure out WHY people list that as one of his "best"

might have been Quaid's 1st movie role.
it was and he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor oscar for Meadows. he didn't win probably because it WAS his first movie AND because that was the year of John Houseman playing Prof Kingsfield in The Paper Chase
Jack Nicholson was also nominated for a Best Actor oscar for "Badass" Buddusky but lost to Jack Lemon for Save The Tiger. Nicholson once stated it was one of his biggest disappointments not winning.
"Meadows Has a Beer" >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrWMARjPXok&feature=related too bad they cut it before Buddusky's "I'd Like To Drink A Toast To Batman, Superman and The Human Torch" in the next scene. that's became a standard line in just about every Navy bar worldwide.
