Its that time of the year... Oscars 2008!! Time to celebrate some of the best movies of the year, even if the Oscar committee gets it wrong (Last year - Pan's Labyrinth should have won best foreign film) None the less here are my predictions for this years event.
Best Picture - No Country for Old Men (-300) this sucks for There Will Be Blood, cause on any other year it should win this award.
Best Actor - Daniel Day-Lewis (-1400) absolute lock of the year.... there is no other real choice in this one. This award belongs to DDL for this performance.
Best Actress
- Ellen Page (+900) I don't think she deserves this one, and I would probably just go with the favorite in this category. But the Oscars tend to like new young talent in the actress categories. Kind of a long shot but really good value pick on this one.
Best Director
- Paul Thomas Anderson (+450) Although the brillance of No Country, should snag this one for the Coen brothers. This film really is PTA's Citizen Kane. I think the Oscars will split the love for these two films, and give PTA Best Director.
Best Supporting Actor
- Javier Bardem (-1200) Second absolute lock of the year. Should be in the best actor category, but then it would get ugly. With JB in this category and DDL in the best actor, the two best male performances will be celebrated.
Best Supporting Actress
- Cate Blanchet (+140) This is the hardest category to predict. No real front runner, and all the performances were all good. None out shined the others. So in this case I guess the value is with the safe pick.
There you have it folks, what I think will go down on Feb. 24, 2008. I'd like to know what all you think.
Take it easy....

DDL would be a lock if it were an ocscar for the best performance of the last decade.
however, that being said, DDL has been snubbed before when he was the favorite to win. I don't think hell have a problem this year though. Bardiem is a lock also, but I really doubt Page wins

True... but Scorcese was stubbed so many times, and look what happened last year, he got the best picture award for a movie that isn't even his best picture. At some point you have to give up to the deserving, and DDL, is long over due.

just saw "No Country" and if it wins it just goes to show those bozos don't know a good movie. "Blood" should win with its historical context in todays oil drivin world. no way "Country" is a better movie. IMO.

True, can't complain. But the pick that I am most disappointed in not making, but really felt, was the Coen Brothers for best director. In all was good Oscars. Till next year.... Oh I just saw Eastern Promises, and I did not realize how good Vigo Mortenson's performance was. Any other year and he would have had a real chance at winning. The movie rocks, by the way.
