he had quite a resume. didn't realize both he AND Andy Robinson, who played "Scorpio" in Dirty Harry, were also in "Charley Varrick" with Walter Matthau

I've seen those movies 30 times but I never recognized Andy Robinson in C. Varrick before.   That's a solid under the radar movie

will agree that "Charley Varrick" is definately a "must see" under the radar movie esp with the cast of Walter Matthau, Andy Robinson, Joe Don Baker and John Vernon (who could be listed in the Most hated movie characters ever..... thread for numerous rolls including this one)

this movie along with "Fail Safe" proves Matthau was excellent in drama as well as comedy. he was one of the GREAT film actors of the 20th Century

Rat - Have you seen "The Laughing Policeman" with Matthau and Bruce Dern?  If not, pick it up sometime.   Great Flick

don't remember that one BUT Matthau was also EXCELLENT is the original The Taking of Pelham 123 with Robert Shaw and Martin Balsam.

haven't watched the 2009 remake with Denzel Washington and John Travolta. figured it would SUCK compared to the original.

speaking of Bruce Dern, I'm somewhat suprised he hasn't been mentioned in the Most hated movie characters ever..... thread. he always played an evil bastard in his early movies. was esp the nasty murderous thug in John Wayne's 1972 western The Cowboys. I think that Wayne would have at least been nominated for an Oscar that year IF The Godfather and Cabaret hadn't "run over the game".
