Perhaps god is a drug, who never lets you down, or, lets you down every time. There are many who would argue that the drug addiction movie has been done to death. These are people who have either never been addicted or at least don't know that addiction is a micro and macro problem. That is to say that for every cell that begs for the drug of choice within the addict, there is another addict out there with his/her own internal bodily cells hungering for the blast of high and so it eventually works into infinite waves throughout our collective societal psyche. NOTE TO NANCY REAGAN: Your crappy financial sinkhole of lies known as THE WAR ON DRUGS has a winner, and it is drugs, by a landslide, so it is time to retreat and try a more realistic approach! Put your damn red ribbons away and pay attention! Alright, so the political/sociological tirade is done, let's look at this film. It is original within its realm. It is sincere, wicked, distressed and an altogether direct stare in the mirror for anyone who has ever had to keep those hungry cells at bay and stay stronger, or at least try. The acting, directing and script are all spot on and this is a moving look at what addiction can and will do without being a preachy film full of forged, holier than thou type counterfeited moralist ideology which stems from a place of ignorance to the authentic condition. That kind of "treatment" does as much good to an addict as handing them a loaded gun, needle, pipe, line or pill bottle. Acts of Worship shows a clear photographic depiction of those knelt at the altar of their own substance-ridden demise, and it is quite well done! "Even hell can be comfortable if you're used to it!"
