As I have always alleged, it is my opinion that humor is subjective, and what some find funny, others don’t. I personally found this to be a rather funny film with many moments of out loud hilarity. Aside from that it is filled with above average performances and message I can stand strongly behind: In anything, including film, sometimes it takes an inspired amateur rather that some overpaid pseudo-intellectual to tell a truly unique story. Think of it as a sort of homage to the fact that we aren’t stuck with formulaic and overrated, yet somewhat talented bores such as Steven Spielberg or James Cameron and that now and then a Todd Solondz, Quentin Tarantino or even David Lynch get a chance to be seen. It is a cause close to my heart that there exists a market out there for reality in film. I know that it is small and possibly dying, but this film, in an entertaining way, pays respect to the hope that this is a proposal with some perseverance. I enjoyed The Amateurs, and, yet, I can understand why many critics and others duped by the big budget Hollywood machine found it threatening.
