just started watching this...i find this vastly overrated

i see imdb had it at 9.5/10 for user ratings what a joke

You know vdub, I was just going to post a thread earlier today about what a phenomenal program it is.  I just finished watching it a few months ago and I can honestly say that is the best television program that I have ever watched.  In fact, I think it's so good that I find almost everything else I stumbled upon these days to absolute garbage (With a few exceptions).  It's completely ruined TV for me.

Please give it some time.  I don't know what season you're in, but it will pick up.

What I meant is that you said you just started watching it, so I assumed you're only a few episodes into the series.

season 1 is done

i mean i don't think the show sucks or anything it's ok i just remember hearing from everyone how amazing it was and i just found it overrated

jayv, stick with it.  i'd say it's the second best show of all time and the 3rd best isn't very close to it.

best show of all time. I've rewatched all 5 seasons a couple of times. The first season is much better the second go around. A lot of people ranked the 2nd season and their least favorite season, but it was probably my favorite one.

Best show ever.  Requires you to pay a lot of attention.  Otherwise you'll miss a lot and you'll think it's so so.

I can't remember which season is which now. I liked the docks season, but my favorite is the school season. With Dookie. That poor little bastard. Indeed.

It's really weird the drastic changes from season 1 to season 2

I've did a bit of reading on the show while I was watching it to get a little more insight into what the creators were going for.  This is from Wikipedia...

Each season of The Wire focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore. In chronological order they are: the illegal drug trade, the seaport system, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media. The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles. Simon has said that despite its presentation as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals. Whether one is a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge or a lawyer, all are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution they are committed to."^[1]

I like season 2 so far

Check out 'The Wire prequals' on YouTube...Not sure why they bothered but they're cool. You get to see a young Prop Joe, a young Omar and a couple of others.

for me season 2 was best followed by 3 5 1 in that order 
4 was decent enough

You are insane. This was the best series on television for 3/5 years it was on the air. I will admit that seasons 2 and 5 were not the greatest but seasons 1, 3, and 4 were must see tv.  

Interesting that most people on this board find season two the best. I assume it falls along racial lines. It took me watching season 2-3 times to really appreciate how decent it was. My order would be 3, 1, 4, 2, and 5.
