With Wimbledon and the World Cup eating up much of my mornings and a sprained ankle keeping me from my evening sports, I ventured to the movies the other night with the Mrs. and the little fella to see the latest and final chapter in the Toy Story franchise.
I have to say that the third animated installment could have been the best one and with the addition of 3D, the Toy Story trilogy is up there with some of the greatest 3-peats of all-time. Here’s a short list of some of my favorite trilogies:
Gatti vs. Ward
These two brawlers put together one of the most impressive three-fight rivalries in boxing history. Arturo Gatti and Mickey Ward wailed on each other for 30 rounds with Ward winning the first fight and Gatti taking the second and the rubber match in 2003.
Lakers 3-peat
Having my favorite player, Shaq, on my favorite team, Los Angeles, was sweet enough. But when the Diesel, Kobe and Co. won three straight titles to start the 2000’s, it was my fondest basketball memory since MJ hit the game winner against the Jazz.
Indiana Jones
This was a terrific trilogy until Spielberg and Lucas barfed up that awful fourth installment a couple summers ago. Raiders of the Lost Ark was amazing, Temple of Doom was terrific and Last Crusade was a nice capper on the series. Then they added in Aliens. Good God.
Cold Cut Trio
Hungry and broke? Head on down to Subway and grab a $5 football sandwich packed with processed bologna, ham and salami. Honestly, I would have starved to death in university if it wasn’t for this triple threat.
