When I first saw this movie, I got so fired up I wanted to move back to Las Vegas and handicapp games like I used to instead of being lazy and just taking situational plays. When I was handicapping games using the Stardust's handicapping library, John Anthony had nothing on me, except for the bankroll which was my down fall. I easily and consistently hit over 60% but lack of BR forced me to play parlays instead of going straight up. Well that and greed b/c I didn't want to play small straight up and build my BR slowly.
Anyways, it says that this movie was based on a true story but the part about the character John Anthony picking the side and total on every game is just not realistic, especially with the kind of high stakes clients he has. A true tout service and capper will not pick every game. Yes they will study every game but only pick those that stand out the most.
Also, the whale they land that bets $1 million across the board (on every game)
is obviously exaggerated b/c I don't think any book would take that
kind of action, especially an online book.
Anyways, overall it was a good movie and a must see for everyone in here.

This movie was trash. Just because it's about sports betting doesn't make it good. I wanted to punch McConahey's character is the face by the end of the film.
And Pacino needs to stop doing all these mediocre films and get back to being one of the better actors in Hollywood. He's now become a character actor and is always playing the same loud, brash, conceited, will do anything to get ahead character over and over again.
I'm surprised by all the positive talk this movie is getting. I guess I should have expected that seeing that this is a "sports gambling" forum first and foremost.
THE MOVIE IS TRASH!

The movie is terrible and you get that spoon fed to you in the opening scene with MM playing a college football QB . Rennee looks like a transtesticle and the only scenes I liked are the ones with Jeremy Piven in them.
Why can't hollywood make decent gambling movies ? Surely they're someone out there with talent, a penchant for gambling, and a vision to make it happen. Maybe everyone is too coked up to make anything decent.

Yeah, this movie was trash. Did anybody else watch the special features? They had an interview with the real guy and he looked like a washed up steroid freak. Hopefully he lost all the money he made on that screenplay in one Sunday betting the side and total in every game. What an a-hole.

bookies was ok but it was a little too sterotypical
ie, they get involved with the mob and the one guy gets hooked on coke...i mean that happens in EVERY gambling/mob/gangster movie.
but the one part that i couldnt stand was that in the game when they had all that action and needed to not lose, the guy betting ith them had the opposing team +10
the star player gets fouled with less than a second to play (first off, why would he get fouled)
the then makes both foul shots, so great, the guys are off the hook. i can deal with that. corny, but ill take it.
but THEN, the bookies go after the kid to collect their money as if he had lost the bet. he didnt lose!! it was a push!!
come on, at least get the facts straight
