I was watching 3:10 to Yuma (great movie) and it got me thinking, is it just me or does everyone else notice that there are so few western style movies nowadays? I wonder why this is, it can't be that expensive to put together an old style western town. I feel like with the writers block so many have now (only way I can explain all the remakes we see now) I think there is a ton of potential in this genre.
The only recent Western movies I can recall are; 3:10 to Yuma No Country for Old Men There Will be Blood - Didn't get a great rating on Netflix but it's in my queve based on the plot.
I am also downloading the first season of Deadwood based off the great reviews it got.
What do you guys think about this genre?

I dunno I guess my thinking is that so many were made in the 50's-70's that they started making less in the 80's and even less then that in the 90's. I was a huge Deadwood fan, just know there is a lot of cursing in it. It doesn't bother me, but it does some. Mostly it's cocksucker, fuck, box and things of that ilk. But you will likely love Al Swearingen as most do. Back to the question, I just think they were played out for a while. But just like most things; bell bottoms, afros and being a hippie and shit were played out, they will have their time again. Until then you may want to get Encore on your cable or satellite. They have Encore Westerns channel on there. Later

sukiyaki western django is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Unless you are a huge, huge fan of anything Tarantino puts his name on or a huge, huge fan of that director, I would say pass on that steaming pile

I started to watch that, but had other things to do and it deleted off of my DVR. I really like Ray Winstone as an actor, but his accent is way too thick and becomes distracting. He was really good in Edge of Darkness, but shit there was so many times you are trying to figure out what he is saying that you get lost at times.
