The hip, cool but haunted singer with the retro looks and sound was found dead today in her London home. It appears as if her demons finally won the battle.
She was 27--an age that has proven to be the last note for too many talented singers and musicians.

Oh Sh&t .Now you are going to hear all that dead at 27 garbage just like when Cobain died.I did not dislike her ,but to put her in the class of Jimi,Morrison ,Janis or Cobain is just not right. She just did not have enough quality material to be put in their class. ( How many Cd's did she put out? One or Two ??) Rolling Stone & other music media just blew her up as a Billie Holiday throwback, and covered all her drama which certainly helped to make her big..What a waste of talent.

Janis only had two albums when she died, too. Kozmic Blues and Pearl was the extent of her output on disc when she checked out prematurely. Now I'm not saying Amy Winehouse compares with the Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison or Cobain in terms of talent. She certainly had a lot of it, though. And like the others, left before she lived up to her full potential.
Morrison may have sung that the end is always near, but Hendrix lived that philosophy with deadly certainty. He recorded nearly everything, and was hardly ever without a guitar. So his body of work remains unmatched. Even so, there's so much more he might have gifted us with if he lived beyond that witching year.

Uber: As far as Janis goes, you are forgetting the first 2 Big Brother & the Holding Co. Albums ( They were essentially her 1st backing band.) The debut self titled LP came out in mid 1967 and Cheap thrills came out in 1968.So that counts as 4 albums in my book.
