Just fantastic stuff on Lotus Flower, Give up the Ghost and Seperator.
The whole thing is only 37 minutes long so if I know these guys, they are going to release more songs as part of this album in some kind of funky manner, perhaps never been done before.
Springsteen, the subject of the famous Rolling Stone quote "I have seen Bruce Springsteen and he is the future of Rock and Roll." Well, The Boss sez Radiohead "is the future with us right now."
At this moment, Yorke is the most innovative and provacative song writer in the industry and these guys will be reverred like the Beatles by my grandchildren.
I may just have to remove Robert from my avi and put ole Thom up there.

They're not bad but trust me, they won't be anywhere close to as influentual or revered as the Beatles were/are
My children and nephews and nieces and just about everybody else I know under the age of 18 love Radiohead. Hell, most everybody I know at any age likes Radiohead more than the Beatles now. Most know who the Beatles are,but aren't as familiar with their catalog as they are with Radiohead's catalog. Radiohead's been around since around 1993-93, at least. That's 18 years of consistently pumping out good music. Do not be surprised when Radiohead surpasses The Beatles as being more influential and revered.
Cashin, you must be an oldie... but a goodie.

Well, I see the talent but don't see 'em as anything groundbreaking or earthshattering - lol. I'm sure they have a huge following, but was talking more about influence (culturally as well as musically) & worldwide acclaim & recognition among all types (& ages) of music lovers after 50 or more years -

Granted, John Lennon's persona is as hearty a celebrity shooting star we'll ever see in our lifetime, but, unless Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood die within the next ten years, they will undoubtedly take over the throne for most influential and innovative music makers of the modern music era. Just take my word for it to happen.

And you know what? Lennon was a pop star, using his pop star power to spread whatever 'word' he wanted. York hasn't written a pop song since 'Creep' and yet he's still doing whatever he wants, when he wants and people are STILL eating it up... damn, people are forever hungry for anything he does.
This subject deserves to be a thesis subject.

Well, it's hard to imagine but I might be more outa touch than I realize, lol. Wasn't just talkin about Lennon, but the whole Beatles phenomena - musical influence as well as stuff like hair, clothes, attitude, etc. Hell, other than their cult fans, 50 yrs from now it's hard to fathom Radiohead being revered nearly as much as Hendrix & Zeppelin are today. But I might be wrong - they surely haven't had near as much real talent to be compared with as the Beatles, Hendrix & Led Zep did in their time.

Not that I put much creedance into awards and all that shit but here's a comparison: Beatles seem to kick ass when it comes to awards. But, we must remember, different times.
I find it funny that Zeppelin and Hendrix didn't get the Grammy recognition until well after their careers were done.
This just goes to show how pointless Grammy Awrds are.
This also goes to show that I'm all over the place when it comes to this subject. I quit.... for now, at least.

I respect the opinions of everyone in this thread but, honestly, if you think for even one second that Radiohead (or any other artist for that matter) will ever even come remotely close to being as influential and revered as The Beatles are... you are positively nuts.
a) Whether it's fair or not, the fact that they were one of the first out of the gate means The Beatles (along with Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, etc...) will ALWAYS dominate the conversation with respect to who the most influential and respected musical artists are. It would take a massive sea change to ever change that fact.
b) As much admiration and respect as I have for Radiohead, let's face it: their music isn't exactly readily accessible, nor is it easily replicated. And what I mean by that is a) they don't write 'radio friendly' tunes which would allow them greater access to and influence over the mainstream and b) their sound is distinctive, thanks in large part to Thom Yorke's voice, and therefore not easily mimicked.
When I think of most 'influential'' artists over the past 30 years or so (and by 'influential' I'm talking artists who got a LARGE number of kids to either pick up a guitar, or start writing lyrics, or just flat out led to other artists imitating their style for commercial gain), the list is really small: The Smiths, U2, Metallica, Madonna, N.W.A., Nirvana and that's about it. In fact, in terms of the immediate future of Rock n' Roll, I would venture to guess that the likes of Green Day and Foo Fighters have and will inspire more young musicians than Radiohead ever will (remember: "influential" not necessarily "respected").
Like I said, I have a deep appreciation for Radiohead ("OK Computer" is in my Top 5) but just like with another of my all time favorites, Tool, their overall influence is negligible (never mind in terms of comparing them to The Beatles).
And case in point: here's Radiohead covering "The Headmaster Ritual" by The Smiths, and you can really hear how one influenced the others musical style. Apart from The Arcade Fire, it's hard to find too many other viable artists whose sound is immediately inspired and/or influenced by Radiohead.
Respected, yes. Influential, maybe. But putting them along side (or above) The Beatles?!? That's just (as the kids say) whack.

Nice points You and I like the same kind of music for sure.
Naturally as a cure fan, I love the Smiths.
There is such a thing as a musical niche in IMO and radiohead resides in a niche that has never been inhabited before and that makes it hard to replicate.
