I was watching tv earlier and saw a advertisement on ESPN for the Indy 500. I know this is the NASCAR forum but its the only "racing" forum I see and this applies to nascar as well.
Anyways, the ad shows a indy car wrecking, flipping up in the air almost on top of another and the voice says "Its not cuz anything CAN happen, its that anything WILL"
Now I have no affiliation to nascar or indycar but I have a ton of friends in NHRA as I spent a lot of my early days touring the circuit with a team. Maybe Im getting too sensitive here but it sickens me that they advertise basically about people getting hurt, and basically killed. Kinda like "Hey you might see someone get really fucked up today!!!!"
I understand that most of the masses of ignorants tune in to racing to see a crash but the thing that the couch potato doesnt see is that people do get seriously hurt, even die, and to kinda applaud this and even use it as the reason to watch is kinda unsettling to me. Ive seen many of my personal friends get hurt and a few even die over the years and then to see espn advertising, using it as their "bait" to get you to watch doesnt sit well with me.
I mean, could you imagine advertising for an air show and talking about how you might see a plane wreck??? Its almost the same thing.
Maybe Im too sensitive with my background in racing but advertising the wrecks, where real people get hurt, is a little disturbing to me.
Am I being too sensitive? Or does anyone agree
Thx for any replies

I completely agree with you, its like the NFL this past year fining players for hits, than going and selling pictures on NFL.com ....Espn is the worst for it too, between the Nationwide series and everything else, its a joke.

I understand the frustration. I don't like seeing hits where the drivers were really shaken or physically hurt -- I think that's in bad taste.
It doesn't bother me seeing wrecks where everyone walked away. While it shouldn't be the selling point... I accept that it is. There are other things to worry about.
