Why is this a statement game for the Hawks? By the way, at first look I thought this might be a sandwich game for Atlanta, seeing as how they just beat the Celtics up in Boston and have Phoenix coming in for an ESPN game on Friday night. But then I checked to see if the Hawks had had any "sleepy" performances this season at home on Wednesdays, and uh, well, they have not:
10/28 - beat the Pacers, 120-109
11/18 - beat the Heat, 105-90
12/2 - destroyed the Raptors, 146-115
12/9 - disemboweled the Bulls, 118-83
12/16 - beat the Grizzlies, 110-97
1/6 - whupped the Nets, 119-89

Hey MrB.. Just Wonderin.. Why a ML play on a 3-34 Team?.. What Is It about THIS Game That Stands Out toYa? Thanx in Advance
I just feel the Celtics will be bored by this date on the schedule, plus they'll be mindful that they need to save a little something for tomorrow night's nationally televised home game. As for the Nets, they've been good to me lately (3-1 ATS) but they're still an embarrasing 3-34, and I know they'll want this game much more than Boston does. I love betting on underdogs when the motivation is this lopsided. New Jersey's lost five straight and were toyed with in their last two home games. Call me crazy but I think these boys are coming to play.
Also, the Celtics have been big, fat road favorites three times this season following a home loss. Did the proud Bostonians play with some fire in their bellies in this situation? No, more like too much Del Taco in their bellies. They won by 10 against a completely crippled Nets team when they laying 14, lost badly in Indiana laying 7.5, and won at the buzzer in overtime in New York laying 10. Not impressive.
I'll grab better than 3/1 on a game that I feel could go either way, and the 8.5 points looks huge to me.

My Nets pick is so bad, I'm truly surprised I don't have a thread going with a neat little Nets writeup. This is the kind of defeat that could possibly cure a problem gambler.
