because when the lakers always played the celtics in the finals, the flights back and forth were a pain in the ass!

2-3-2 makes no sense.  2-2-1-1-1 is the only fair way to do it.

thanks to drewskki&#x27;s kind words i did do a little research on this and...&#xD;&#xA;its funny that david stern was elected comissioner in 1984 and in 1985 was when they implemented this 2-3-2 format and ironically enough this was the year when magics lakers finally beat the celtics...&#xD;&#xA;even red auerbach, the man who suggested this format to stern came out years later and said that it was terrible that they went to this format, cuz the home team doesnt get to host game 5, which is the swing game in a 7 game series&#xD;&#xA;coincidence? i think not
