I don't post much and have not posted a game this year at all in the NBA forums but I want to share some input for this game.
Someone mentioned about "situational" plays the other day that convinced them to take the Raptors ML against Portland even though the books were giving Raptors +3 (moot point since they got blown out anyways) because Portland were missing Batum and Matthews and thus they concluded the Raptors bench would outplay the Blazers bench. Funny thing though is that they didn't take into account who had a better starting 5.
Which brings us to tonight's game. IF there was every a situational play, this has to fall into that category. A line hasn't been released yet because I guess we're still waiting word on some of the Raptors key players (Lowry, Bargnani). But it don't matter - whatever the line is, I am going to pound the Nets hard.
I'm actually glad the Nets lost to the Knicks because now there should be no let down and I'm sure they'll be pissed as hell blowing a 17 pt lead to the Knicks. What better team to take out some frustration than the lowly Raptors?
The Raptors are in a mess right now - and that itself is an understatement. Being from around the area, there is huge speculation of the following: Bargnani, Calderon or Fields being traded, Coach Casey being fired, GM B.C. being fired or all of the above. Colangelo has publicly scolded his team calling their play "embarrassing". And what do the Raptors do in response to those comments? Get blown out the next day by the Clippers and then Monday by Portland.
They just came back from a long West road trip where they went 0-5 and have had 1 day off only. There's a case in point to fade teams in these situations. To make matters worse, Amir Johnson will not play tonight because he will be serving a 1 game suspension for throwing his mouth guard at a ref during Monday's game in frustration. Really, who throws a mouth piece at someone? Bargnani and Lowry are both questionable after leaving Monday's game but most likely will not be playing according to reports I have read. They're already without the services of Landry Fields. This means their STARTING 5 could be: Calderon, DeRozan, Kleiza, Ed Davis and Valanciunas. Good luck with that. Their bench could be made up of: Pietrus, John Lucas, Terrance Ross and Aaron Gray. Honestly, put up your hands if you drafted any of those players mentioned above in your fantasy bball league. I know I didn't.
The Raptors season is done folks. I'm sad because I'm a Raptors fan. But we're done. The team has given up. We are playing to PROTECT our lottery draft pick now that we gave to Houston for Lowry. Something's going to happen soon to this team in the next week or so and I'm guessing either BC or Casey is gone. B.C. has publicly said on radio stations that it's not a "talent issue". Read in between the lines folks - if it's not talent it's coaching. And I have to agree with B.C. here too. The Raptors on paper are better than last year's version but for some reason cannot do any thing right at the moment.
And if none of the above has resonated with you yet and you find yourself wanting to play the Raptors tonight, ask yourself this one simple question:
Would you want to back a team that can't even COVER ATS against a Portland team that shot 0-20 beyond the arc Monday night and still ended up LOSING BY 18 pts. A team that shot 0-20 in 3's and still won by 18 pts. Had they even hit 25% of those shots, they would have won by over 30 pts.
That's how bad this Raptors team is. I think the line will be Nets -8 and I will be willing to play up to Nets -9.
Good luck all.

well, nice inside info, Dealhunter. Toronto right now is really suck Although, Brooklyn will be without their big force on offense Brook Lopez, and still I think Brooklyn will cover. D. Will and company wants to break that loosing streak, including tough loss to NYK last night.
I will get points, if it will be at -5 or - 6

I see where your coming from, but there are a few points I would argue:
I would argue the Raptors are not better than last year. Lowry is the only upgrade.
The injuries to Fields and Anderson really sucked a lot of the depth the Raptors were relying on away early on. Then couple in Kleiza's personal issues, Jonas playing his first few NBA games and Derozan dealing with signing a big contract...this team has a lot of garbage going on behind closed doors. Add in Bargnani's inconsistency and its no wonder this team struggles to put up wins.
I think they miss the locker room presence of Magloire.
I hope Casey doesn't get fired, but something needs to happen. I don't think its Casey being moved from the organization, I think its Bargnani.
I think next week we will see some action.
Raptors should be a good fade for a while though.

I'm seeing a lot of posts showing people got Brooklyn at -4.5. Damn you guys are lucky lol! I'm seeing Brooklyn -7.5 now so maybe the injuries to the Raps have been confirmed.

Hey, Dealhunter maybe you would be familiar with the incident with Amir Johnson? Wat was up with him fighting the rebound with the ref? He wanted to touch the ball or something? It was so funny and childish. Players from both sides were just minding their business and all of a sudden Amir gets tossed and a fight almost broke out.
Maybe it's me but don't you think that players refuse to play for a Canadian team? I mean, look how long Vancouver lasted before they moved to Memphis. Toronto had a lot of great players during their time. VCarter and TMac made the team profittable and they sniffed playoffs but they were dying to leave the team. Chris Bosh came and went. You got some nice pickups during the time with Jalen Rose, Oakley but they were way out of their prime and they felt 'dissed' to be sent out of country to play.
Now, Toronto has nothing left and these kids would be more than glad to be traded back to a team in the US.

I like Brooklyn to snap their losing streak tonight. They are in need of one and it could be one of those games where they blowout and stars rest in the 4th quarter. TOR is way too depleted right now. Bargnani's trade value dropped significantly with the injury and his lack of defense. But he's a great bench!

For those who haven't been to Canada or more specifically, Toronto, let me first tell you that there are A LOT worse places to be playing for in the US. Buffalo and Milwaukee to name a few places.
The only reason people don't like to play for Canada is the amount of misinformation out there and the high taxes they have to pay compared to other parts of the US. So to that degree, I guess it makes sense if you'd want to keep that extra $3 mill on your $15 mill contract.
But Toronto is a great city comparable to other big cities out there. I've been to NYC many times and can tell you we share many similar things to that city.

I like the analysis but the line is now up to 7.5 and looks to be heading towards 8. That's a ton of points to hand out to a home team on a B2B. Still you made a convincing argument to take the Nets.

Well, I think the -4.5 banked on Barg and Lowry playing but the fact that its -7.5 now tells me they won't be playing even though I don't have this confirmed. Either way, this falls right in the line I originally said in the first post of -8. I think the Nets win this double digits easily and the only reason they don't is because they let up in the end.

Nets are only 3-6 this year after a loss so they don't respond all that well when trying to bounce back and are 1-2 on zero days rest. In none of those games were they giving a ton of points like this.
They've only covered one big line like this all year and that was 7.5 at home verse Portland.
This is on the road laying 8.
Lowry being out comforts me because I could see him having a big game.
I just think this line is just out of the range where I would bet it, that is, I'd prefer 5.5 to 6 with Lowry and Bargnani out.
You really think those two are worth 3.5 combined? It's possible.
This has to be a total laydown spot for the Raps to lay 8 on the road on a B2B for the incoming team...You that confident?
I'm thinking packaging this with another game in a tease to get the line where I want it.

I'm just not liking the spread here.

I am not saying this game is a lock or that it's the POY or any of that - it's gambling and anything can happen on any given night.
What I am saying though is that I like the situation the Nets are in tonight to right their funk. The conspiracy theorist in me says this: Between these two teams, who do you think the league and the fans want to see succeed more? There was a lot of HYPE of the Nets moving to Brooklyn and being in a major market while Toronto continues to remain off the face of this NBA planet.
Can Toronto win tonight or cover? Sure they can. But it would take a monumental team effort focused on D and big games from DeRozan and Calderon. I'm just not convinced this team is playing as a unit cohesively. There's no player on this team that you can say is the identified leader on the court. The shot selection they are taking makes you wanna pull your hair out sometimes.
Final Play: Nets -7

Toronto is beautiful and I`m not being bias. They think we live in igloos here, however realistically we are the next NYC. One of the safest and cleanest city`s in NA by FAR!!
Now, as for the spread, again I`m not a fan of the Nets and still think they need a lot of missing pieces. I wouldn't touch this game personally. There are better games out there tonight. Like Minny at home :)

You people don't live in igloos ? I suppose you'll tell me you don't club baby harp seals to death either. All my childhood stereotypes of Toronto are being harpooned like a defenseless whale at the hands of a heartless Canadian fisherman.

nets will break the losing streak its just a matter of by how much, while the nets are very capable of winning by 11+ they are not playing consistantly for a whole game which should keep the nets win under 11 points for the very good value collect
good betting everyone
