That ain't on Rudy, that's a coaching issue. Van Gundy and Reggie Miller were right to criticize Minny's defensive scheme. They should be doubling Luka and forcing someone else to beat them, especially when Kyrie is on the bench.
Meanwhile on the other end, Ant is getting locked up by Luka of all people who barely ever bothers to play defense. Then there is this narrative of Edwards being "tired" lolol. He's 22 yo and can jump out the gym. Last week he was 2nd coming of MJ, now he's "tired"

Actually No, none of it is on Goebert. Making him defend the perimeter against one of the best ISO players in the league is like asking Kyle Lowry to defend the paint vs. Shaq and then asking "Why can't he get any stops???". Should he have been DPOTY? Idk maybe not, but guarding the perimeter is not what he's there for, it's what Ant Edwards is supposed to be doing and Walker-Alexander should be doing, but Minny's coach think's otherwise. They weren't the #1 defense this year because Goebert was able to smother wings on the perimeter, the aforementioned players did that and Goebert served as the rim-protector.
It's insane what Minny is asking him to do and they couldn't have picked a worse time vs. a worse player to attempt it

It's the beauty of having a guy like Luka run the offense. He's got size, smarts and isn't afraid of the big moment. He makes the right read/play 99% of the time and is always under control, never panics.
It just seems to me like a lot of people, and especially NBA media/talking heads were eager to crown Anthony Edwards as the new face of the league, meanwhile Luka has already carried 1 sub-par team to a conference final, and is now on the cusp of going to an NBA final with another when absolutely nobody was expecting them to. They don't know what to do, so they're shifting to "blame Rudy" when the guy is being asked to do something no other big man can do. Even petty-ass Draymond is taking shots at him, but Luka cooked his ass too, so idk what he's talking about. It's impossible for these 7 footers (even great defenders) to guard great perimeter wings. Joel Embiid is also regarded as an elite rim-protector by every defensive metric and analytic you can throw out there, yet last season in the 2nd round i watched him try to guard Jayson Tatum and Tatum got whatever shot he wanted and cooked him.
