Dilemma with a Friend

I have a friend who asked me to place several sports bet for him. Sometimes I would just take the bet and not put it through my bookie to save on juice. There is this one time I told him his bet was in but I made the wrong bet and I didn't know until after the game.

edit: During the end of the night, I mistakenly texted him that his bet was winning. He kept asking me if I was sure so I got suspicious and looked through my texts, I realize it was not the bet he picked and that I have confirmed for. As a result, I told him that his bet lost but did not mention about the wrong bet I made.

Does it matter if the wrong bet won or lost to him? Fortunately for me, the wrong bet ended up winning. I'm thinking if the wrong bet were to lose, I would assume the risk and therefore he should pay for the bet he lost.

My question is..
Should I ask for the money if his bet lost? Or give him money if his team won?
Should I give him the money if the wrong bet I made won? Or ask for the money if the wrong bet lost?
Who is right or wrong here? What should I have done?

My friend is a huge gambler. He busted out his account and asked me to make bets for him where I get a small cut on his winnings

My friend thinks I'm fucked up for taking the winnings from the wrong bet and the bet he lost. But I was looking at the standpoint where I would have paid him if his bet won and I would have to pay up for the loss bet

Any input/opinion would be appreciated.

I think you use the term friend very loosely.

Why did you feel the need to be honest with him after the fact?

He is a close friend but he is also a huge gambling degenerate. Initially I didn't want to take any of his bets because he has a really bad history but I get perks from it so why not right and kept insisting to help him


I wasn't entirely honest with him because I hid from him the wrong bet I made and the fact that sometimes I don't put in his bets so I can take the action and juice. He looked through my history in my account and that's how we got into this dilemma

That's the risk you take by placing your friend's bets. Do the right thing and pay him his winnings for the bet you f*cked up and then tell him you are done placing his bets.

His bet lost. Where is the confusion? He lost he owes who cares if your the idiot that put in the wrong bet that won. His bet lost.

If he is a degenerate with a bad history, fade his bets like you accidentally did....

Put it to him like this. If the situation was reversed and the bet he gave you won, but you mistakenly put in a loser, he would still expect to get paid right? As long as he doesn't expect it both ways...

Don't get caught up betting for a friend. If you do, assume the risks. Only pay him if he wins. If he loses, he pays you! Bottom line is you have put yourself in a bad spot! Lay it on the line. Tell him to find his own bookie or introduce him to yours. Then wipe your hands clean of it! Good Luck!

I totally agree with you. I tried to explain it to him that if his bet won, I would be obligated to pay him and if the wrong bet lost, I would be stuck with paying that as well.

He is upset the fact that I'm being greedy by taking his losses AND taking the winnings from the wrong bet.

He just wants you money and is not considering the situation, he doesn't seem to be losing any sleep over the friendship's stability, pay him and cut ties, or don't pay him and still cut ties, because he should really accept the fact his bet was a loss, even if you made a mistake of the bet, you would have still paid in full out of your pocket, my suggestion, sleep with his girlfriend.

He's okay with not taking the winnings from the wrong bet but he wants me to ADMIT I was wrong in this situation which I don't think I am.

Tell him to pay off his own account and stop asking you to make bets that he clearly doesnt have to money to cover. Its only a matter of time before this guy stiffs you anyways imo

Well, If he is a real friend, just ask him what he thinks is fair & come to an agreement you both can live with. Since you made the wrong bet, regardless if his was a loser, splitting the winnings might make sense & the same if it had lost - half & half. If yall are really buds & it's a big deal (don't know how much $$ is involved), not worth the bad feelings over a bet & just don't do it anymore. GL -

If his bet won you would have lost the $ on the wrong bet you made and still had to pay him.  -2 for you.

The wrong bet won, and he lost, so I feel as though it is fair for you to keep both bets profits. +2 for you.
