Does this Clips/Grizz game mean anything in the standings?

Always confused how seeding works in the NBA

It's a huge game for home court advantage, if Memphis and L.A. meet in the playoffs.

If the Grizzlies win tonight and end up with a better overall record than the Clips, then they will get the #4 seed, despite the Clips winning the Pacific division. 
Memphis still has a chance for the #3 seed also(but they need to finish with a better record than Denver since they lost the season series 3-1).

If the Clips win and finish with the same overall record as Memphis, they will get the #4 seed(by winning the season series 3-0).If they lose tonight, it becomes very unlikely they will get above the #5 seed.


Denver can throw a wrench into all this if they lose one of their last three games. 
If Denver, Memphis and the Clips all finish tied, then the Clips win the 3 way tiebreaker and get the #4 seed by virtue of the winning a division title.

Weird.

I like the Clips ML tonight.

Great breakdown mellow.
Moral of the story; this game matters  quite a bit to BOTH teams.  Expect playoff type basketball. 
Too bad that total is already ridiculously low...

If you dont nderstand how seeding works prob shouldnt be betting this time of year save ur money but its pretty simple goid luck p4p.

Clips getting a 5 seed would be a major disappointment given the way they started the year and expectations...

Expect them to bring this one right to the wire...

The Grizzlies (54-25) are currently tied with the Nuggets for third place in the West, though Denver holds the head-to-head tiebreaker. The Clippers are right behind them at 53-26, but as a division champion they can't seeded lower than fourth - though they'd still need a better record than the No. 5 seed to have home-court in that scenario.

so if Memphis and Denver both has a better record than the Clippers, the Clippers will still be seeds 4th because of winning the division but in the 1st round the Clippers will not have home court advantage.

Also, seeding only determines who plays against whom.

Home court advantage is given to the team with the better record regardless of seeding so it's possible for a team seeded 6th to have home court advantage against a team seeded 3rd.

memphis/clips season series is 1 win memphis and 2 wins clips so far.  memphis won in la last game 96-85.  beatdown.

if record trumps seeding, than seeding is meaningless.

Good post.

Overall record is all that matters. Seeding is irrelevant in the NBA playoff structure. The way it should be. I hope NFL and MLB adopt similar structures down the line. It's the fairest way.

Game seems more important for Clips if say they wanted to play GS, Memphis winning wont change anything for them immediatrly after tonight.

There are 3 divisions per conference. If 4 teams in one division has the 4 best record in that conference then in seeding then 1st and 2nd team in that division gets the 1st and 2nd seed. The 3rd and 4th seeds go to the other two division wins as division winners can not be seeded lower than 4th seed. The 5th seed goes to the 3rd best record and the 6th seed goes to the 4th best record.
