I'm curious about trying to make one and I'm wondering if anyone on here can offer some advice.

Advice:

If you build a model, it needs to adapt to any changes in the environment.

Avoid fixed values for specific scenarios.

Focus on the opponent's effect on the team in question instead of looking at how a team "usually" performs.

Team psychology is very important. Crack that nut, and you'll be on the right path.

Not what I meant. I'm sure you meant the NBA because you're posting in the NBA section. I'm talking about what you had in mind in terms of a "model". What are you basing your model on? What data points, trends, stats, etc?
