How many people in China would watch the NBA finals if their boy Yao was in it?

How much $$$ would that translate into Vs. Kobe - LeBron?  What would the difference be?  Does Yao draw superbowl/Olympic ratings because of the chinese population?  2 Billion people...  At least 1.3 Billion people with TV access.  Nearly 5 times the U.S. population to potential watch and advertise to.  Has there been a realistic situation to put Yao in the finals thus far? (hurt last year).  Teams are selling players for no value these days just so they don't have to pay them.  Teams are in the process of, or are close to going under.  If the difference between Kobe vs. LeBron or Yao vs. LeBron is $500 Million to $1 Billion in revenue from TV advertising sales doesn't this have to be done from a business standpoint?   Im no Conspiracy theorist, but...

i think yao will bring more money to the nba than kobe vs. lebron. that is only here in the states. but u r talking about billions of people over there to make plenty of money from it. u r absolutely right about this

no team is close to going under. looking at forbes, the NBA is actually in better shape financially then MLB. NHL is the one getting hit now. Proof of that is the coyotes filing bankruptcy.

Your comment about the finals. Kobe is more popular then yao in china.

Yao is so soft.  You think he has grown into a star and then he plays like the Invisible Man last night.  Guy is 7 foot 6- a wonderful shooter and reasonably mobile.  He should be producing much better than he does, especially on the defensive end.  China must be embarassed

and no im not kidding about kobe being more popular then yao. remember the olympics? kobe has the most popular jersey in china as well. i think more people will watch though, national pride thing if its yao.

kobe is more popular though.

Well, the lakers have that dick face chinese guy that is injured right now. If he recovers next year and plays 5 minutes a game, he can also attract millions of chinese in a future lakers nba final.

kobe is more popular though.

More popular with the young, hip Chinese crowd.  But Yao is more popular with the rest of the populus as he is non-threatening and does not rape people

the lil chinese people will run to see their only big man play. Of course the NBA will make more money having Yao Ming play.

If somehow Houston Beats LA.  Without a doubt the NBA will not let the nuggets in the finals.  At +200 - +300 for a sure thing...  Look out

interesting point, but i'm pretty sure a lot of people will be watching the finals if Kobe is playing, too...
 
if memory serves me... there was a recent Olympics where the local people seemed to worship one Kobe Gilligan Bryant... what country was that again?

Yao is 7'5" and he tries to take charges. Maybe next year when he grows some.
