Yes. Lakers probably win. This whole Luka thing is overrated. Anthony Davis provides rim protection and puts the entire wolves front court in foul trouble. Anthony Davis is also not a ball hog and kicks the ball out better than Luka. Luka is a bonafide ballhog who just launches an insane volume of shots.

you don’t replace 2 elite 2 way players.

Anthony Davis is injury prone. However when healthy he is a top 10 player in the league.

elite postup big with good ball handling skills and DOPY candidate on any given year.

Doncic > Davis in the long run.

It's easier to find a big man who can play D and provide no offense than to find a shooting guard who can take over games. (Think of a center like Steven Adams.)( I know Luka plays multiple positions, but he's best as just a shooting guard.

For any team, the best ability is availability and Davis doesn't give that consistently enough. A hard fall and he's out for the rest of the game and possibly then some. 

It'll be interesting to see what the Lakers can pull off in the off-season to complement Luka and what should be Lebron's final season (imo).

Yeah they knew but once they rescinded the Williams trade that put a huge hole on your defense.

You're not understanding my reply. if a big part of the offensive production is shifting from your PF/C (Davis) to a SG after this trade, and what's been missing in this series is the Lakers' D, it's easier to find a big man that can at least replace Davis' Defense. (I may have not been obvious, but I'm not talking about replacing both Davis's offense and defense, which in that case, if you can find someone who can, you go after 'em.)

And I'm not saying Adams defense = Davis', but Adams is an example of a big man that can at least give you solid defense.

I agree. Healthy AD is a top 10 player. His defense, rounding and foul creating is missed.

It's not that Luka is ruining the team chemistry - it's that he isn't going to be putting up 40pts every game and his lack of defense is a huge liability.

AD does both - he can be a monster on offense and defense in the same game.  You can argue that he gets hurt and misses games - but you can easily argue that Luka is not going to be shooting 50%+ from the field every night also.  Even if he's in the game, if he's having a shitty shooting night then he might as well be out injured or resting.

The only argument I can accept is that AD is older than Luka, if your angle is that they were more concerned with Luka being the long-term face of the Lakers franchise.

That's part of my original argument.

Davis = 32 yrs old
Doncic = 26 yrs old

For better or worse, Anthony Davis has the "injury prone" label. He was mostly available for the '23/'24 season. Him getting traded to the Mavericks and then immediately getting hurt and missing multiple weeks is the perfect example of encapsulation of his career. I like him though, so I hope he can flip that script. 32 is still young enough in today's NBA.

still a problem is created that goes unsolved, that being luka a defensive liability not to mention adams being an offensive liability. Ive been against the trade because I like a healthy davis a lot and I know he isn't healthy most of the time. but this was a smart trade by the lakers as for as the future is concerned. they get rid of an aging davis and being in a younger star who can keep the seats filled and money pouring in from merchandise and everything else.

It depends if lakers are trying to win in the next 2 years or the future. If they wanted to win now, they should have ran it back with AD and Lebron. They complement each other better and Lakers need a productive big man that can play defense. If you think Lebron is on his way out soon and don’t want a full rebuild 2 years from now, then you bring in a young star in Luka and build around him.

I think this matchup in particular was significantly worse with them having Luka vs Davis. Gobert would be a liability with Davis there instead he's the best big on the court now. The Wolves were still better in many stats and metrics before the series, that's why i took them as a dog but part of it was i thought the chemistry on LA might be an issue since the trade. It's still a trade I would have done in a second but it's not gonna pay off this year.

Davis is built for playoff basketball and is a rare type of talent when healthy. He just gets the job done and is like a steady security blanket up front. There's a reason he was the starting center on the Olympic team when we had a ton of guys to pick from. I feel like he is a good leader too and they miss that.
