unlike previous years

just to keep in mind...

Much better for the spurs IMO this way

I think otherwise.

If Miami leads 3-2 with game 6 at home, it will be done. With 2-3-2, last 2 games would have been at SA.

So I think it stinks for the spurs

you crazy??DEFINITELY favours the team without homecourt advantage more than it previously did......as earlier stated it gives a chance to close out in game 6 at home in a series that is highly,highly likely to go at least 6....previously if they wanna close out at home they would have had to win 4-1,which wudnt be happening most likely.
  also in a matchup between 2 pretty even teams(which i think we can all agree is this situation),it means that to hold home-court advantage for the series miami DO NOT have to win 3 in a row which is clearly very difficult to do...having home games split up is just psychologically easier.
check the history,in close matchups hardly ever does a team sweep the middle 3 at home
favours miami if anyone without doubt

lol because playing 6 and 7 at home would suck for the Spurs compared to having a game 6 in Miami.

Results almost even under either format.

From a article a few years back.............home team was 19-6 winning the series under the 2-3-2 format. 

Previous series under 2-2-1-1-1 format home team was 18-7.

Breaking it down game by game results almost dead-even.

The team with a 3-2 lead wins almost the same under either format be it the home team or road team with the 3-2 lead.

When the home team has the 3-2 lead and goes on the road for game 6 in the 2-2-1-1-1 format the the team has won 11 of 12 series.


It seems to indicate the better team wins regardless of format.

Those are some absurd stats favoring the home team. Based on those numbers, the Spurs at ~115 are a steal.

  It's been 2-3-2 for 20-25 years.  Why the switch back to 2-2-1-1-1?

Crucial games are games 1,5,7 . All 3 games in San Antonio ....

This years Heat team is better than 95% of those away teams so it's really not a steal

Unless they are seriously baiting in the casual fans to hammer Miami..... Kinda like Broncos in the Super bowl..... Vegas made out like Bandits after Seattle won.

They first have to be up 3-2...... theres a solid chance they will be DOWN 3-2 as well..... 

This isn't the Pacers bro. Miami NEEDS a split in SA.

I honestly think its simple logic if the heat split first 2 they can win it at home by sweeping , makes less fair in a way for the spurs

In 1984, the Celtic and Lakers did battle in that year's NBA Finals. The Celtics were 62-20 during the regular season while the Lakers were 54-28. The NBA welcomed a new commission in Adam Silver on 1 February 2014 replacing David Stern. The Finals will be, for the first time since 1984, in the format of 2-2-1-1-1.

Guess what happened in the 1984 NBA finals series and how did that end?

Lebron in 6.     2-2-1-1-1 format favors the heat here.   Now instead of Miami needing to win game 6 or 7 in san Antonio  now they get game 6 in south beach.  Advantage Lebron.   And more travel for grandpa Duncan, and great uncle Manu, and tin man tony
