The NBA doesn't give a sh1t about racism.  They care about public image.  They'd still call players people if they could get away with it. 

But when an owner does something where NBA inaction will lead to player boycotts, sponsor withdrawals, etc., well, then they have to look intolerant to racism.

I bet there's other owners that have Sterling's plantation owner mentality toward the players. They've just never been caught on tape.

The Donald Sterling generation is dying off. I'm 50 years old and most my age do not condone the kind of behavior Sterling speaks of. And the generation under me never talks like this. Black people here in NM are more educated than the Indians and more than many of the Hispanics. Times are changing and so is the attitude towards black people, and the attitude of black people towards Anglos. We have had a black President re-elected twice, sure he isn't a very good President, and it's not because of his color, he's an ideologue. But we as a country are becoming more tolerant of people's race, religion, and "sexual preferences" But until the older generation of whites and blacks die off the fringe element of them will pop out of the woodworks every now and then and pay the price for it.

Pretty solid post. The Donald Sterling generation is definitely dying off, and even the Donald Sterlings of today are still willing to pay black men millions of dollars so even the Sterlings of the world aren't even as bad of a racist as some think or as the ones before him. A poster above you said the nba would still refer to them in negative ways if they still could and nothing could be further from the truth, that is a totally immature and blind opinion. There is always going to be whacked people with whacked thought no matter what but the way people try and insist this country is still so horribly racist have never seen true racism, they just wanna complain about someone. Barack Obama's election in so many ways I thought would further put to rest the notion that this country is so racist but in a way it's made it worse. People wanna make EVERYTHING about race when there's really nothing there and everyone is too afraid of being politically incorrect to ever say they're wrong and exaggerating. Everything is going fine as a whole in this country in regards to racism, and also it's not a one way street
