One thing i dont understand

We see a delay in the market for a particular game. Reason is because a key player for the team is undecided if they will play or not. This indicates that the players availability will impact on the impact, otherwise, why the delay. Correct?

However, once the market does go up, no public news is available on the players availability. When you do read about the player through the day, it is mostly a game time decision.

My question is, how does the bookmaker put up a market for the game, when no public info is available on the player. We know the players availability impacts the market, because it was delayed in the first place. But how does the bookmaker know before anyone else?

For example. Tonights GSW game was delayed significantly in terms of posting market. It is now up. However, their is no info available on wether Curry is playing. How does the bookmaker know?

So very true..............not cause it is rigged but I think vegas has insider info from people close wtih the team IMO

The market for the GSW game tonight was delayed, simply because the Warriors have a few players undecided if they will play. Curry/Barnes/ Landry. Curry being the real key. It is delayed because their availability impacts the price and rightly so. However, we see a market posted before any public news comes out. I know you can read into the price if the player is going to play. However, how does Vegas know before everyone else? It seems Vegas knows before the opposition coaches and players know.

Isnt that alarming?

I agree that this aspect is interesting to say the least.  One would think that there are only a few places that this info regarding player availability could come from ie coaches, team doctor, team beat writers etc... Assuming this, you'd have to then assume that the info does NOT initially go to the public.  Obviously there isn't too much lag on the info, but by the time it does become "public" Vegas has already adjusted itself to limit any exposure.  Somehow there is a direct conduit for this info that sends it to the oddsmakers first...  I'm guessing there isn't a good explanation for this and there probably never will be.

They don't know, they put up the line with very low limits.
Sometimes they put up the line and a couple of hours later the info comes out and the line goes offline and moves 2-3points.

So then why not put up a market immediately when they put up other markets? Time lapses , then they put a market. What happened in between this time frame? Something must have happened for them to put up a market. Otherwise, it doesnt make sense for them to delay the market.

Last night was a perfect example CHI/MIL. I stated in my picks that Taj is solid player and very well can substitute for Boozer and be very effective but line swung made MIL a Fav and Boozer not playing was completely overvalued. Back ups become key factors in these situations. But remember they are bench players for reason, and get exposed if used too often and same goes for older players who are starting for key player. Example J Kidd. Although he is starter but his shooting pct has been regressing BIG TIME. This of course is not always the case.

Playing the team with the injury usually works best on the first game.

Every situation is different. Look how well Bos has played without Rondo, although, small sample. Whats the long term effect?
