William Hill randomly shuts down once or twice a week for a few hours and I have a theory that it happens when they are in the midst of losing a lot of money.
Also, it is one step to put your money into websites, and an immediate process, but 5-10 steps to get the money out, and takes anywhere from 3-10 business days. The whole system is just incredibly shady.
You are right....these are all off shore gambling sites. It is illegal in almost every state to do what we do, but its just not easy to control it thru home computers.
There is a withdrawal method called RAPID TRANSFER...my book only allows it once every 7 days. But I make it a point to withdraw at least the minimum amount every week or two. This is done by moneygram and is a pretty simple and quick transaction. Usually 24 hours to confirm it and then another 24 hours to get your confirmation number. But once its confirmed, the $$ get immediately removed from your account.
One thing that might give you some relief is that my book just made national headlines for losing millions on the UFC over this last weekend. It turns out that the underdog won on every card and as it turns out, many will make small bets and parlay all of the underdogs for a shot at huge $$$...in another words, a 10.00 bet on all of the dogs would make you rich overnight. Well several did this with like minimum 4.00 bets and it hit, costing the book millions that they will never recover, because the betters arent big bettors...they were small betters just throwing down minimum bets for kicks. Its not like these guys are betting thousands that they can recover in a week in a wash. That money is permanently gone.
Well needless to say, my book has been extra slow at crediting winning tickets. I have had to call 3 times after win just to get them to post my winning ticket. Winnings that were normally quickly calculated within minutes of the win were now taking hours to process. Coincidence?
The point is they are offshore and kind of have us by the balls. If they legalized it here in the states we wouldnt have this problem, because of competition and accountability. People could complain loudly. Right now you cant really complain, because its not legal...who ya gonna complain to? You can take your business elsewhere, but then you have to start all over again with another offshore place up to the same practices.
The only way to combat it is to rhythmically make your withdrawals no matter how small the amount. You play all week and at the end of the week no matter what make a withdrawal.
I also keep a daily tab of exactly what I have in my account at the beginning of the day and at the end. Its a monthly ledger that keeps track of my own daily activities. This has helped me a lot...writing it down helps you track it more responsibly. It doesnt seem like a big deal, but at a glance you can see your progress throughout the month...what you have won and lost.
It keeps you honest and more disciplined. It has totally changed my approach to playing. Books dont like this...they like the careless gambler that doesnt really keep track of how much they are actually losing and winning daily. This becomes monopoly money of sorts and plays right into their strategy.
Anyway, you did the right thing...stay on top of your winnings...have their number on speed dial for immediate corrections.
Yep...its shady...but its all we have at the moment. The fact that we cant fly to Vegas or New Jersey and do it all legally, but we cant sit at our home computer and do it legally is ridiculous. Politicians could careless about us or our families. Its about controlling the tax dollars that they havnt quite nailed down to the internet yet. These offshore places have no obligation to taxes to the US politicians. So its not as easy as just taxing winning tickets when you are dealing with offshore sites based in non taxable countries. So the politicians make it illegal because they havnt figured out how to get a piece of the pie.
