Posted this in the soccer forum in case anyone wants an angle on a tremendous mid-day soccer affair:
YTD (SOCCER): 44-21-10 ATS
No reason to wait on my end, I know the angles to my plays so thought I might as well state it below and do so early enough in the day for anyone that is interested.
REAL MADRID +1/2 (-130) & REAL MADRID FH PK (+129): Ok, so here is the monster matchup everyone has been waiting for. Only thing is that it occurs in the semi-finals instead of the finals, which has proven to be the biggest obstacle of Manchester City's history. In fact, their coach Pep Guardiola, has yet to lift the coveted Champions League trophy after having been dispatched in 6 of his last 9 semi-finals. Moreover, Manchester City's last FOUR Champions League away tilts have ended in draws. The latest came to a muted Bayern Munich team which Real Madrid has much more ammunition than.
On the flip side, Madrid has not played really well of late though that has been more of a domestic form than anything else. They did just win the Copa Del Rey, their THIRD trophy this season alone, and are the returning champions of the Champions League. In fact, they have been to the finals on what seems like an annual basis and have OWNED Premier League opponents, having just eliminated both Chelsea and Liverpool, rather handily. I understand Man City is a different beast, and Erling Haaland the most lethal striker in the world, so it's hard to see the reasoning.
But Madrid has an impressive record of winning 13 of their last 16 European home games (D1, L2). And why is out of the realm of possibility that Madrid can score a goal, which I expect they do twice tonight, in the first half?!? I think that Man City will try to control the flow of the game, no different than Barcelona does in La Liga, a team that RM is very familiar with. Where I see Man City in trouble is the Real Madrid counterattack, with Vinicius Jr. on the wing and Benzema a big enough target and technical enough to finish off those crosses. Man City has had problems against guys who can post up like Harry Kane and I think the same about Benzema today.
In the end, this is just a MUST play for me. I'd make them BIG PLAYS but Man City is too good yet too unpredictable at this stage to do so. I see Madrid winning at home or, at worst drawing, setting up a tasty finale next week to see who progresses. Hoping this helps the forum, as always, tail or fade, good luck to all...
