An albatross contract for a postseason choker into his 30’s that will only get worst with time is the star of the deal? Why not say pass on Derozan and take OG Anumboly, Van Fleet and a 1st much later like in 2022 when they would be in a rebuild year? Why not take this deal and come back to the Lakers that they would do the deal for Kuzma and Ingram and no 1st rounders? To me this was nothing short of a desperation play to milk one last playoff when they should be thinking about rebuilding.

don't worry about it...no GM jobs will come calling for you any time soon....you have likely only seen DeRozan play against the Cavs in the playoffs these past several seasons...he's a much better than you think he is and will likely continue to flourish on the Spurs

Spurs had zero leverage?? They could have had Jaylen Brown and picks at the deadline, L.A offered Ball and Ingram, they could have had a nice package from Philly. Instead they end up with an albatross contract, a project center and a late 1st rounder who won’t even be worth much.

Shame on Pop and RC Buford for not taking the Philly offer of Robert Covington and Dario Daric and a future 1st round, which will be in the late 1st round.

Spurs asked for Ingram. LAL refused any deal that included him. That's why talks broke off. Pelinka said as much on L.A. radio afterwards.
S.A. will look fine from this trade. They seem to have a way of making every trade look good and blending guys into their system.

I think the spurs just felt bad to give away such a star with out getting anything big back, seems like a moral thing as they dont want to just give away a star for young players. for all we know, the spurs could use derozan as a trade piece for more young talent since his contract is more then 1 year like kawhis.

poelt is a very nice player. he is a good worker too
Yes he is...solid team player and will end up having a very successful nba career when all is said and done barring any major injury...the kid is smart likeable hard working and has a nasty defensive minded approach to blocking shots and knowing how to play the center position...sadly the game is moving away from the traditional center type player, so it will be interesting to see how he fairs long term...being the backup to Aldrige isnt too shabby for now.

I was surprised Danny Green was part of the trade. You would think Raptors would be the more desperate team giving up maybe 3 players and a future first rounder for Kawhi but only 2 players..? interesting.
I guess Spurs didnt give 2 fuks about what they got back for Kawhi its like they devalued him or something. Derozan was horrible in postseasons he got benched at one point in the Cleveland series while Kyle Lowry played better trying to keep the Rap in it. Spurs got a bad trade here, only thing good was getting an addtional 1st round pick for next year's draft to probably go along with a top pick of their own since i dont see the Spurs getting any higher than 8th seed they might even miss the playoffs altogether. i dont see how the Spurs got better with this trade to compete against a stacked West for this coming year. Lakers will bump the Spurs out of the top 8 seeds.
Sip on that plus money honey!

that was at deadline, not now. What is hard to understand here. I can only assume that at that point they still thought they could repair the relationship and resign him.

You guys have to remember the contracts have to match up with the salary caps, kawhi-20 mil, danny green-10 mil, derozan 28 mil, poetl- 3 mil, this is why green had to be part of the deal or else the spurs wouldnt keep up wit the cap.

Its rare for a Raptors fan such as myself to wake up knowing our team just traded for the best current player in the conference, amd when they step onto the court come playoff time, Toronto will always have the best player on the court wearing a Drake designed OVO uniform
