Excellent article by Rick Telander of the Chicago Sun-Times talking about the lack of traveling and palming calls in the NBA game..I would contend that it's worse than ever. Guys used to get one step which became two, which now in some cases is up to four..An example would be Rondo's fake pass layup which looks pretty but is a clear travel. Palming has also become the norm as you will see it on every other possession..I would contend that if traveling and palming no longer exist, they should be dropped from the rule book. What is the point of having rules that you don't enforce?

Van Gundy is hilarious I enjoy his commentary. Nowadays guys can literally take four running steps from the three point line for a dunk/layup without the bother of even dribbling the basketball..it's getting ridiculous..

i dont mind the steps so much but the palming gives the defender no chance. guys wouldnt blow by guys constantly if they had to actually follow the rules

Could not agree more re the travelling. I've only just started watching NBA having not followed the sport since playing at school. And I've been truly baffled by the travelling thing....

What really takes away from the game is when a player catches a pass and either takes 2-3 steps (sometimes 4) or shuffles his feet then bounces the ball and no travel call. Happens often and really shits all over the rules of the game. One of the fundamentals taught at a young age is the pivot as to not travel but todays NBA shits all over it. really takes away from the game. disrespects it in a sense

very true, as a basketball player myself I go play at the gym and the palming is even worse there because nob ody would ever call a palm in a pick up game but there is no chance to stay in front of them. no way
