When I saw this line, I really thought it would be the most square, public play on the board - and I don't care. I am shocked to see that as of now, more people are on Spurs (I have to believe that will change dramatically).
Let me start by saying that I live in San Antonio but am not a Spurs fan. This town is absolutely depressed about the injuries and terrible start to the Spurs season. The home crowds have been very lethargic to say the least . . . and the Spurs have certainly lost that swagger and feeling of invincibility at home.
As for the game, the Knicks are the worst team they could possibly face right now. The local Spurs beat reporter came on the radio and predicted a Knick blowout - stating the face that the Knicks have the advantage at every position except center.
San Antonio realizes that the only way they can beat teams is to slow the game WAY down, play tough defense, and try to get ahead early. They simply don't have the firepower on offense to pull themselves out of moderate deficits.
Even though it has been their calling card for years, the Spurs are getting lit up to the tune of nearly 50% from the field. The lack of perimeter speed is mainly to blame. Another huge problem is bench scoring and depth. Roger Mason Jr. (who you might ask - exactly) and George Hill (I am not making these names up) are going to have play 35+ minutes and try to defend the perimeter players for New York. It will be funny watching Matt Bonner, Michael Finley, Kurt Thomas, and Bruce Bowen (who has definitely lost a step) try to hang with the Knick frontcourt. The Spurs one strength (Duncan inside) can be negated by double teams (as the only Spur shooting well from the perimeter was Tony Parker) and heaven help them if Duncan gets into foul trouble as you will be seeing a ton of the Matt Bonner, Fabricio Oberto, Anthony Tolliver poo-poo platter.
Spurs simply do not have the depth or speed to hang with New York. I expect the Spurs to play hard, show heart, and not lay down in this game, but I honestly can't come up with a scenerio where San Antonio wins the game short of Duncan going totally bananas and most of the Spurs bench and role players playing out of their mind. The 3.5 is a gift that I will gladly accept. I usually am a flat unit better rarely risking more than 1 unit a play, this will be a minimum of 3 units maybe more. Good luck to you and whatever you decide.

As bad as the Spurs have looked never underestimate Greg Popovich.
Completely agree - I think this line is a reflection of the respect the books have for Coach Pop and what the Spurs have done over the last six seasons. Also keep in mind that D'Antoni has a very good record (especially in the regular season) against Pop even though many would argue that D'Antoni has had the inferior team. If anyone knows the Spurs and how to compete against them, it's D'Antonio (they have played each 18 times over the past two seasons including the playoffs).
The Knicks could come out flat or shoot poorly and I feel they could still win the game - I think Coach D has his boys ready to play and will have a game plan ready to exploit the Spurs weaknesses. This game has the feel for one of those "Why the f didn't I unload on this game" OR "Oh my freaking goodness, did I just bet 4 units on the Knicks on the road?" kinda games, I don't think there will be an unbetween. Good luck to you and thanks for the post.

Just locked in another unit on Knicks +3.5 - this is a 4.5 unit play for me (remember, I RARELY bet over 1 unit per game). If I am wrong, I can live with it, but I would be upset at myself if I didn't take advantage of this line.

not too mention, the Knicks were absolutely DISMAL until Zeek and Nolan got pushed out thanks to a nice little sexual harrassment case, so I'm not drinking the Knickerbockers kool-aid just yet. Your write up is spot on however, and think this game should be close to a pk, so I guess you need to roll with the points here until the Spurs can prove otherwise....see alot of peeps on the over in this game, that makes it an AUTO UNDER play for me

I definitely see where you are coming from, this is a play AGAINST the Spurs and not a play FOR the Knicks (although I feel their style of play is perfect for this spot) and I trust D'Antoni to have a good game plan tonight. Good luck with your under!

IF the Spurs have any intention of winning this one they'll definitely have to tighten their D and play slow, halfcourt bball. If these oldies decide to go wild and start runnin' with the Knicks they have absolutely zero chance of winning this match.. imo

I agree completely that the under is the play based on what I believe the spurs will want to do. Just remember, if they fall behind early, that strategy will go out the window (like the heat game Friday). I believe its more likely that the Knicks COULD score 110 against this team than the Spurs being able to successfully slow down the game. I rank it Knicks +4 most solid, under for the first half the second most solid. Everything else for me is a no-play. Good luck my friend!
