How dumb is that strategy? Look at what happened in Game 4 of the Bulls-Cavs series and Game 5 of the Hawks-Wizards series.
Game 4- Bulls-Cavs. Rose drives to the lane for a lay-up to tie it with 8 seconds left thus giving Cleveland the last shot. Even if the Bulls survive a buzzer beater, they have to beat a superior team in OT.
Game 5- Hawks-Wizards. Washington takes the lead on a 3 with 6 seconds left leaving enough time for the Hawks to win on a buzzer beater. Again, if they take a 2 to go to OT they will likely lose, but if they take a shot and leave time, Atlanta has a great shot to beat them on a buzzer beater (which they did).
Seriously WTF is this? This has been going on for as long as basketball has existed, yet these underdogs are never criticized for these decisions. If I'm coaching either of these games, we're taking a 3 at the buzzer. We're the underdogs and we're either winning it on one shot or losing it on that shot. We're not going to force OT to lose by 8 in OT nor are we going to give them the last shot in regulation to beat us and then lose by 8 in OT if they miss.
This is just so dumb how the Bulls and Wizards blew their games. This isn't Alabama vs. Florida State in college football. This is Alabama (Cavs/Hawks) vs. Texas Tech (Bulls/Wizards) so you better go for the 2 point conversion to win it, chumps.
