I am not even going to entertain the argument of Gilbert Arenas being the best player ever
In any series a team learns how to play better against their opponent.......Hawks learned how to beat the best team in the east twice....and you cannot make that compelling of a argument to justify a 14 point spread. KOAJ you are exactly right Hawks have improved their play immensely against the Celtics and I will play the Hawks and Cavs.
Hawks learn how to keep the game close.
Lebron is rested and back home and ready to bury the talk to much Wizards...maybe if the Wizards spent as much time talking about Lebron as they did finding a way to beat him the series would be tied........unfortunately Cleveland WON on the road.

i would sooner lay 14 points with dave wannestedt than i would doc rivers
man, the hate is on Doc eh? I think he has done a pretty darn good job meshing this team in their first year together + Doc is not suiting up tonight, so your 14 points are with the best team in the NBA at home, in a must win situation Vs a young Hawks team that inside knows they have already overacheieved and going to the place where they have already lost by 20+ twice!!

best is subjective...LAL, Spurs, Pistons can lay claim to that also. best record in the reg season gets you home court...nothing else
was doc not an awful coach last year? its amazing what good players can do for a coach's resume
doc is a career .470 coach (approx) this year he wins 80% of his games...he did get better this year but he was awful in 3 and 4. the coach doesnt suit up but he decides who's on the floor.
did denver know they over achieved when they beat seattle 15 years ago? how about GSW last year? (to reference other 8 v 1's)

so your 14 points are with the best team in the NBA at home, in a must
win situation Vs a young Hawks team that inside knows they have already
overacheieved
So they know they over-achieved meaning they can't play again?
So Joe Johnsons sitting there like "Gee, we played our brains out against the Celtics last game, and totally won a game we should have lost. So lets just roll over and die tonight." Really?

Rivers is terrible...........does not know how to set a rotation. Does not know how to establish favorable matchups......doesn't call good plays.
Did you see him laying into Allen the other night for not guarding Johnson? Get a fucking clue you joke and put Posey or Allen on him. But no hes dumb and leaves Allen on him the whole time. Celtics are not THAT much better to over-come incompetent coaching. Which is what Doc Rivers is. Fucking incompetent.

Koaj, we all know that teams fall apart when they play in Atlanta. It happened all last year. I do not trust the Celtics this year. Aside from KG and Ray, there is not much substance. Pierce is soft and Rondo is not ready.
that being said, I think the Celtics will win in the 7-10pt range, but it's good to see ATL putting up a fight.
First quarter might be a nice bet...haven't checked the line yet...

Not even close buddy, are you putting words in joe johnson's mouth?? The meaning of my quote is that the hawks have to already feel a certain level of satisfaction knowing they have won two games thus far in series, when nobody thought they would get one. They also know they will get to play one more game at home no matter what happens tonight, so rolling over and dying has nothing to do with getting their asses handed to them (again) by a superior team tonight.
Oh, and I thought the celtics were not that much better to overcome the incompotent coaching of rivers according to your post, but yet somehow they attained the best record in the league?

cassell hasnt been a great fit...we dont see nearly enough minutes from powe, davis and the rest of the bench which is what made them great for 82...

I am not betting on Boston in Atlanta. That crowd is crazy (I have been to Atlanta on business and it is a wild place) and the Hawks have nothing to lose. They are better than I thought, at least against Boston.
I put a few bucks on them on the series awhile back but know it will not happen. I think tonight Boston shows me how poor the 50-1 odds on the series actually were... Boston is going to rip them apart one of these nights and this looks like the one, at least to me.
Home court is everything in the NBA. If this series does not prove it point blank then I do not know what will. I think the real "gift" is Boston backers getting a better line than we had in games one and two after both were covered with extreme prejudice.
Would not mind an Atlanta win at all because that would make the series bet something to dream about, but I doubt I will even get to be hopeful about that after the first quarter... I figure either I cash on Boston tonight or at least ride a wave of wondering if the Hawks can do it, which would be one hell of a high. GL all.

Hawks feeling confident,C's looking over their shoulder a bit,14 points are a gift imho. Bibby has his game back, Johnson is a force, Horeford is a Blood or is it Cript? Anyway this game goes to the C's but I doubt by more than 14. The neck is getting tight right about now.

You almost made a good point until you got into the whole nonsense about vegas will for sure need boston tonight. Let me clear this up:
Vegas NEEDS your Vig and that is it. They never NEED a side to cover, b/c that would imply that they are in a hole which is never the case. The lights and all that crap are built off the Vig, the juice etc. Sure its nice when the public gets slaughtered, but trust me the fact that they can book bets is all a Vegas Sportsbook needs to make money.

My initial lean was to go HUGE on the Celtics, but I feel the same way about the Celts in this spot as I did about another team from the New England area 3 months ago...
So, I thought about it more, and this is what I came up with.
For as good as the Celtics were throughout the regular season, the fact that this is their first playoff run together is huge. Also, it seems to me that the Celtics were very much well prepared for the Hawks in Game 4, evidenced by their 16-3 lead out of the gates. The fact that the Hawks punched back makes me weary of how good the Celtics really are. Is it possible that this Celtic team, a cast of career-long losers, spent the entire regular season pummeling teams into the ground because it was the first time they could? That they paraded through the regular season playing at their highest possible level and now in the playoffs, are incapable of going any higher? Also, is it possible they are burnt out from giving 150% every night of the 82 game season and have to face a young and athletic team that seems more dangerous the deeper this series goes...
These are just thoughts, I'm just trying to get thinking around both sides of this. But, I've been DEAD wrong on all fronts in these playoffs so I might just have to go with my initial feeling and fade all this Hawks thinking...
