1998 Bills vs. Patriots at Foxboro

Question

With everyone (mostly Vikings backers) in an uproar over Minnesota taking a knee as opposed to kicking the extra point (I agree with taking a knee), I wanted to hear from anyone that remembers this Buffalo vs. New England game in 1998.

Buffalo was catching 3.5 points on the road and led 21-17 after a controversial pass interference call gave the Pats an untimed down with the clock at 0:00. New England converted the gift into the game winning TD to make the score 23-21 in favor of the Pats. The Bills entire team was in such an uproar over the pass interference call that they left the field and went into the locker room while the field was swarmed by media and fans. After officials cleared the field, NE ran in a two point conversion with ZERO Bills on the field.

Final score: NE 25-21.

I had the Bills that day, and it remains my most brutal loss of my life.

Anyone remember this one?

I think viking should come back score extra point than....but i know this is impossible....

By the way, Pete Carroll was the NE coach back then and he said he took the 2 points for the total points tiebreaker because the AFC was wide open that year for a playoff berths.

Why??? The game result was decide. Why risk any unlikely injuries when you don&#x27;t have too?? Unless the Saints did an unsportsman like action by bull rushing the kneel down.

yes I remember , The Bills Radio announcer John Murphy later said the Refs Bet the Patriots that day He later was forced to apologize for his statement

I&#x27;m sure a lot of bettors had the Bills that day, but you are the first one besides myself that I have seen.   I also had Bills/over parlay and though I was kind of rooting for the NE TD which would do the over and still give me the Bills and the Bills/over parlay, assuming a normal extra point,  a little voice was telling me that this was not a good scenario.  Sure enough.

It actually wouldn&#x27;t be shocking if they got rid of this rule for playoff games.  This was the first non-overtime walk off TD so in forty years it happened once but, during the regular season they make them go out there as total points for and against are tiebreakers.  During the playoffs it means absolutely nothing to the team.
