Don’t understand what just happened there. Why was the ball not respotted and a measurement taken? The play was so close that there’s no way the original spot was correct. At the very least they have to check for the correct spot and respot the ball for Pitt no?

100% fraud. Not saying he does or does not have the first down. I am saying they inaccurately spotted it by a yard, no question, reviewed it and chose to be wrong by a yard. Fraud, period.

rules change game to game in nfl. no dog in fight, clearly a first down.
By the forward progress rule you would think it was a first down, but how could you possibly know that without a correct spot of the ball and a measurement?
And I agree. I have been saying for years that the rules seem to change week to week. It’s what makes gambling on this sport extremely frustrating.

thinking the same thing. How is the nfl watching these plays and not even moving the ball? it was obviously not a yard short. should have definitly been a measurement at that point of the game.. Chiefs and Steelers NFL darlings

FRAUD is the right word. IDK how anyone looking at the replay could spot the ball on the 42. He caught it at the 41 and sat down. The play by play guys were speechless. How do they come out and spot it a yard back without any explanation?
That's the kind of bogus officiating that's making the games unwatchable for me. It's happening way too much too
That'll be enough

What pisses me off besides the fact that I had Washington is that those kind of calls can change the entire outcome of the season for a team. Washington is fighting to win the division and one loss could be the difference. I’m not saying that the call was wrong, but there has to be more caution applied to the situation than simply saying the ruling on the field stands.

It all evens out most of the time... Refs screwed Pitt on fumble on the one his progress had been stopped.. Brought in Gene the ref to confirm... Missed obvious holding call on TJ in the end zone right after..

They definitely affect season outcomes for teams. they jobbed New Orleans in the NFC final a couple of years ago. And the fact that you have that happening every week means it's gonna have a significant impact on which teams have overall success. But the Commanders should still be ok and, at least win a playoff game or two - provided they don't get screwed...

Quit crying, the game shouldn’t have been close. With all the missed calls the refs must be Kamala voters!! Next up for Commanders Philly on a short week.

I hear that. And I understand that much of the game calls are subjective. That’s not the point in this situation or the question that I would be interested to know the answer of. The question is this- why was the ball not respotted and measured? If they do this and the ball is short, no problem. But the initial spot was obviously wrong. Just for the sake of the correct spot of the ball for Pittsburgh shouldn’t they be putting the ball in the correct spot on the field? The only argument that one could make is that it “didn’t matter” because the game was effectively over. But that’s not how rules work. That’s not how officiating works in sports. The spot of the ball on the field is important to the integrity of the game and I don’t care if it’s the last kneel down. The game has rules and the refs have been hired to enforce them and to ensure these things. That’s all.
