Let me just start by saying this game has tank, play your reserves, and preserve your elite players for next season.
Keenums pockets fat while still a big disappointment and still has another season to go in a Broncos uniform. Keenum may play this entire game but what about the rest of the team? And what if he takes a bit hit on Monday night? Do you risk him being out there with all the money invested in him? Not much hope for Denver with him and definitely not without him either.
Phillip Lindsay needs 9 yards to reach 1000 in his rookie season. He's also going to the Pro-Bowl. What happens after he gets his 9 yards? Do the reserves come in? Wouldn't you want to see what your reserves can do the last TWO games of the season? Notice i said TWO. I dont think you get much out of one game.
Miller is going to the Pro-Bowl as well. How long will he play? Chubb a rookie himself. Keep him healthy you'd think. Coach is on the hot seat after an embarassing year. I don't think he wants any more of the spotlight based on his decision making. And what about the players? How long do they want to play the day before Xmas in a meaningless game? I mean the Pro-Bowl is something special to some and may only come once in a lifetime. You just cant take that opportunity away from a player and risk him getting injured. But it does happen. I just don't think it will happen hear.
How bout Oakland?
3-11.
But wait. Denver is 6-8 and they can't lay a field goal to Oakland. But why?
Oakland is not as bad as they seem. Or are they? Carr is definitely to blame for probably half of his sack total. His decision making was horrible all the way through mid season. Not sure if it was over confidence but Oakland lost Cooper, Mack, and several others to injury, etc. This was a huge blow to the Raiders believe it or not. Expectations were high and they just tumbled. But lets look a little closer towards the end of the season. Carr has thrown just under 300 passes without an interception. To make myself clear. Carr hasn't thrown an interception since Week 5. Carr is trying to keep his starting job imo cause if he ends up elsewhere there's no guarantees but there's plenty worse out there as well. Besides he likes being a Raider. Grudens system is said to be very complex so I'm guessing it takes time to understand it. Carrs pocket presence needs to be better and he needs stay in the pocket and scramble for yards without hesitation which he is capable of. Carr has steadily improved over the past few games with his decision making. The Coliseum will be packed, final game of the season in Oakland is here and a loss will probably cause this place to ERUPT!!!! Security will be on high alert. The fans will be loud, talking smack and on the edge.
I like Oakland here at +2.5 but i like them to win straight up as Oakland is still undecided on whether the future of the organization is with Carr or some other QB. Gruden and Carr are finally clicking and some young receivers are stepping up. J. Nelson could also be the difference in this game. He's yet to top 100 yards receiving since idk when but he's long due and if Denver sends too many blitz packages Oaklands way then Nelson could have a big day against a subpar secondary. On the contrary Oaklands secondary is a little suspect itself, problem is "Who will Keenum throw to?" Reserves by halftime I'm guessing.
I have a feeling this total has dropped due to sharp action moving in on the Under. But this game can be high scoring without Denver starting Defense second half.

Rain could slow down or stop between 5-8pm. This game kicks off at 5:15 in the West. Heavy winds should still be accounted for. But if it does rain it can lead to fumbles, players losing their footing, the winds can lead to interceptions and all this can amount to a high scoring game. If Martin and Lindsay can both get it going for each team with the current weather situation it will open up the passing game as defenses will commit more to the run. Turnovers, weak secondarys, small backs, a better defense vs a better offense has me slightly leaning towards the Over. I could be convincing myself but Im not sold completely on the rain factor either.

While it may seem as if not so, Per game defensive yardage numbers are nearly the same between these two teams. The Broncos just have the edge in scoring defense and run stoppage.

I think this game can easily go over the number. Defenses are banged up. Rain is expected to stop during the game. I'd lay away from Oakland. Im locked in small on the ML but I don't recommend it. I feel like this one ends 23-20 or higher which is a reasonable number and sensible as well.
Denver has allowed well over 20pts average to high profile qbs in the league on the road. Carr scored 19 in Mile High. Take a look at the games against the better QBs in the league. I still think Carr is one of the better QBs in this league. He can be quick with the release and accurate such as Rivers when on his game.
Im going with the Over. Tread lightly.
