And he certainly did. Just not the way he wanted.
Dude is making the game all about him. Trying to be the uncanny unorthodox revolutionaty hero. But instead he looks like the biggest imbecile in NFL History.

Yep the guy got stupid and upset and made it personal. Made a decision after the penalty to still go for it and make this about himself instead of tying the game. He just lost his team. They not going to play for him anymore after that. First round KO for them. To bad cause they deserve more than that from a coach.

You guys are acting like he lost his playoff berth lol , it’s one game , the division is wrapped up and I’m sure the lions making #1 seed wasn’t a preseason priority

very little benefit to go for the tie. Detroit needs to win the game to have a chance at a higher seed in the playoffs, not tie.
Detroit needs to keep its players injury free and fresh, not play 10 more minutes of OT.
Dallas even had a chance to kick a long FG to win it regardless.

Guys play for coaches like Campbell because he has their backs. Guys don't play for coaches like Payton because those guys F with players money.
What would have been stupid if Campbell had opted to kick the XP after the first attempt and sent the game to OT. Think the players would be happy about it, knowing a win, loss or tie meant absolutely nothing to their playoff standing? Guaranteed the players would have told Coach to f-off if he 'chickened' out of the 2pt try, essentially placing the players in harms way just to go to OT.
Detroit is 11-5, won the division and has the 3 seed. Not sure how many players would think the guy in charge is a dolt.

Don’t mind the first 2 point try, or even the 3rd. The one at the 7 would have been mind numbing though. Very low % in that situation. From the 2/4 I could see justification. As one guy mentioned in this thread, there was still 23 seconds left and Dallas had 2 timeouts (I believe), and the best kicker in the nfl. Seen numerous teams get into FG range in that position.

Throw out the gambling aspect and think of it as an actual coach. Health of the players is top priority. How many times have you seen guys get hurt on extra time? Their goal is to be healthy for playoffs. Top seed is just icing on the cake

@backdooor_cover
I believe under normal circumstances Campbell kick the Extra point, but that flag shoot every ounce of blood into his brain and he had a brain lapse, I doubt we can find one NFL HC that would go for 2 in that situation.

Campbell let his emotions get the best of him there. I didn’t hate the idea of going for two, but from the 7 it was ridiculous. Mathematically you’re going to lose that bet more than win it. I was a fan of Campbell earlier in the year,but after that he lost me. You have to be smarter than that as a professional. I’ve said this before- Campbell reminds me of a degenerate gambler. He takes risks that outweigh the reward, and if he loses he doubles down on the next bet. Not going to win a superbowl like that IMO.

One team was playing a regular season game.
The other was playing a playoff game.
