The Drake Maye era has begun in New England. I think this is a dumb idea. He should sit out the whole year until the o-line is decent and they have some receiver talent as well.
I'm pretty sure he's going to get smashed. Maye could have a "back" injury like Josh Allen had in Houston. I'm a Patriots fan and I think this a very shortsighted and ill-advised decision.
Does anyone think this is a good idea?

Agree, stupid! Pats stink, should be no reason to play Maye this year. Play Brisset, get him killed and get a top3 draft pick and draft oline help. Even if Maye steps up and can get you 5 wins, its just hurting draft position. I also wasn’t a fan of them using last year’s pick on a qb. The team is not a qb away from being competitive, they have too many holes to fill and qb should be the last piece of the puzzle not the first.

If it works, you're a genius. If it doesn't, you adjust quickly and pivot since you currently have a top pick in 2025.
Ballsy call, because if it doesn't, you not only possibly lose Maye mentally/confidence-wise but probably also your job but I do agree with it. With no hope, as it stands, to do much this year, you have to see if this kid can be the answer. If you think he is, you fill one of their many other holes in the Draft.

I disagree with this mentality. I think the great ones can lift the spirit of an entire organization and help turn the attitude into a winning culture. If you’re really a special player I don’t think you can be “ruined” by being put in a bad situation. Put it this way, Mahomes wouldn’t have fell apart if he played for a bad team. He’s just too gifted. And Zach Wilson wouldn’t have became a star on a better team. You either have it or you don’t and there’s no better way to find out then putting the kid on the field. If you can’t handle adversity then you probably don’t have what it takes.

What about Sam Darnold, Mayfield, Geno Smith, and Jared Goff? They all started out not so hot on shitty teams. All of a sudden, with decent talent and coaching, they're playing some of the best football in the league right now.

The likelihood Maye is the next Mahomes, Elway, or Brady is VERY slim. Throwing a rookie, who might not be ready yet, to the wolves is never a good tactic in the NFL. Look at Jordan Love, Aaron Rodgers, even Mahomes sat most of his first season. Sitting and being patient is the path. Unfortunately they didn't build the team first, THEN draft the qb.
Kraft is fucking this team up. I thought it was ALL Bill's fault. Now I'm not so sure....

I would make the argument that those players are matured at this point and understand the game better. Not saying that throwing a young qb to the wolves is going to help him but I also think if he’s a chance to turn around the franchise then get him some reps this year. that way you know what you’re working with next season.
My point is this- if you have it you have it. If Jayden Daniels was starting for the Panthers or Patriots this season I believe that he would play well in both situations. The talent is what it is.

Chalking there current success up to maturity totally negates coaching and system. Which are both very big parts to the equation. I can admit skill is skill. So we agree there. If he can play. I'll say I was wrong. I hope I'm wrong....
However, a really bad system or situation can hinder the early development of a non transcendent player. Or a player that isn't just great no matter what! Rg3 comes to mind as a skilled qb who was destroyed by a bad situation. Who knows how many other qbs might have been serviceable had they sat a bit longer.
My money is on Maye being hurt more than helped with the early start behind a patchwork line and nobody to throw to. Never mind AVP and the ancient westcoast shell of an offense he's running up here.

Interesting debate. Either way I think it’s fair to say that the coaches and fans would like to see what he’s capable of. I agree that the offense line is so bad that it could easily lead to an injury which is a strong argument not to play him. I do believe that there is some talent on that offense in Douglas, Stevenson, and Hooper. Those guys can all shine with a more mobile and dynamic QB. We shall see in due time…

I'm not making excuses. I'm simply thinking out loud about how this could end up. I'm no Patriots honk. So you're barking up the wrong tree with the excuse making. This team is trash, 3-4 wins tops, Maye isn't changing that total all that much. Even if he is the second coming of Brady. Which is almost impossible...

So I was pleasantly surprised. It looks like Maye can play. Hopefully they don't RG3 him up....
Still so horribly under-talented pretty much everywhere else on the field around him. But encouraging signs of life at the most important position in ALL of professional sports.

I felt they should have started him last week against the Dolphins in a winnable game. There was basically no chance Pats were winning yesterday. Drake exceeded my expectations yesterday, especially for his first start. Pats need a true number one Receiver and major upgrades on the OLine.
What I don’t get is why Mayo for a second time has let the offense run the clock out when Maye had them marching and could have worked on their two minute and red zone offense.
IMO as someone who followed his career in college, more chance of him getting physically hurt than mentally damaged and he is one tough dude physically.
