TV networks may make it out alright with any combination this year, but don't they want to usher in the next generation of quarterbacks to lure in younger viewers? I think people have seen enough of the old geezers in Brady and Brees. Younger fans identify themselves with younger players and tend to be more interested in everything if their peers are in it. Do you think 20 somethings and early 30 somethings want to see what senior citizens in their late 50's and 60's are doing? Brady and Brees have been around for too long, they are the equivalent of senior citizens in regular workplaces. Watching Brady and Brees is like watching Alabama and Clemson in college national championship game. People get tired after seeing them so many times and want to do something else other than watching football.
When Peyton Manning was riding into the sunset at Denver, there was a compelling storyline of Peyton giving his all to the Colts only to be discarded by the ownership, who went with young Andrew Luck, when Manning had a neck problem. Manning overcame the neck surgery and became a star quarterback at Denver. In his final season his neck was giving him problem during the mid-season, he was jokingly called by some to have a noodle arm. He returned to action when Osweiler atruggled and saved the team.
Brady and Brees have been playing so well, people don't have any sympathy for them. They got their place etched in the NFL lore and now are ready to be pushed out. Brees accomplished the most passing yards record this year. Brady has been called the GOAT for some time. It is time for them to pass the torch to the next generation and gracefully retire.
