well DUH, if a player is offsides and gets a jump on the QB then the O-lineman's propensity to hold to protect the QB goes up, but the need to Hold only came about b/c of the offsides penalty. same thing goes for intentional grounding.
shouldnt something be done about this?

Normally when a play is about to snap and the Def. player jumps offside, the play is considered a "free Play" even though the play is understood that its on the defense. But during that play everyone is still going to play as if there were no penalty. You are right of course they are going to try to protect their QB but in some instances if a hold is called then they offset.
