I will be bashed all week for this play, but I like it. Dolphins play the Patriots tough in Miami. These are the results for the past 10 years.
 
2006 (NE -3  Result: Miami 21-0)
 
2005 (NE -3  Result: NE 23-16)
 
2004 (NE -9.5  Result: Miami 29-28)
 
2003  (Mia -6  Result: NE 19-13)
 
2002  (Mia -3  Result: Miami 26-13)
 
2001  (Mia -8.5  Result: Miami 30-10)
 
2000  (Mia -3.5  Result: Miami 10-3)
 
1999  (Mia -3.5  Result: Miami 27-17)
 
1998  (NE -2    Result: Miami 12-9)
 
1997  (Mia -2.5  Result: NE 14-12)
 
 
I know these Patriots are one of the best teams ever assembled, and they defy trends & normality, but their time of covering every game finally ends in Miami, I believe the Patriots will win this game hands down, the NFL is looking towards a matchup with the Patriots & Colts, if they can both stay unbeaten till Nov 4th, will be hyped up as the game of the year, and with the Patriots probably being a small favorite in Indianapolis. But as for the Pats/Dolphins game, this game is the Dolphins "super bowl" and they will be prepared, i'm sure of it.

I have no better reason than the 17 pts I'm gonna get when the game starts...give the 2 TDS and the fg and I'll take my chance with it.

OH, have I forgot to mention that NO TEAM in NFL history has started out the season winning and covering 7 straight games, I will go back and check, but i'm certain about this stat!

Not sure about Miami this year
Rank 23th in defense and 21th in offense
Even though Miami defense used to confuse Tom in the past.

I love the pick.  I am with you 100% on this, way too many points to lay in a divisional game on the road in the NFL.  Could the Pats cover, definitely, but we must keep the oddsmakers honest here.

i'm going with the MIA. 17 points is too much for pro football, eventhough the PATS are a much better team this year than any other.

against clevend they won by exactly 17 pts just because of the last minute interception-touchdown.

I am a die hard pats fan and have to agree with prime time on this. No team plays the Pats tougher than the dolphins in miami. Taylor and Zach thomas have made a career of chasing brady and the pats around the field all night. Dont get me wrong, i think the Pats will still win this comfortably, but the Pats cant keep covering monster spreads all year and i see this game as being where it ends. At -17 the Pats can be up 21, have the game in the bag and easily give up a nothing TD at the end to ruin the spread. Spreads this high are soo dangerous because the favorite can dominate all game and give up a meaningless td at the end with all the backups in to ruin the spread.
 
So....i am on the dolphins at +17 this week. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly. That's why monster spreads are so difficult to cover. And for the record it was a catch and fumble recovery for a TD. Go Pats. hahaha

The history lessons about Miami playing the Patriots tough all deal with better Miami teams, and worse patriots teams.  Enough of the comparisons. 

We are talking about 0-6 team that has lost to Houston, Cleveland, Oakland, and the Jets! The start some dude named Cleo Lemon and have one of the worst defenses in the NFL giving up an average of 30.33 points per game.  And we are talking about the 6-0 Patriots who have an average margin of victory of 23 points!!  Those are the two teams playing this game, not the teams of the past 10 years.

At first blush it makes sense to take Miami based on their history.......but these are both vastly different teams.  That is the problem with making decisions based on stats versus current day.  I thought about the same thing......taking Miami.  Can't do it though.  Not worth the risk to fade New England.....a team that is making a statement every week because of the shit they have been embroiled in this year.  In my opinion there are better games worth playing.
