Is DVOA metric helpful when handicapping?

Novice to this stat. Wondering if there&#x27;s a simple explanation to it to understand how to process information. Looks fun to learn, just not familiar yet. Gracias.

This and EPA are used a lot in Warren Sharp’s new book. Both are basically efficiency stats for offense (EPA) and defense (DVOA).

The one downside to these stats is I think you still need to watch game flow, because a team’s defensive efficiency is going to look a lot better if they’re teeing off late on a subpar OL and offense (ex: Lions v Raiders on Monday, the 4Q will inflate DVOA).

Extremely.&#xD;&#xA;This is the best $59 any novice NFL bettor will spend.&#xD;&#xA;Raw stats are useless.&#xD;&#xA;At a base level, any novice can form a model based off of these numbers.  They get you 60% of the way to a working model.

Just look at the Falcons defensive dvoa ranking, #25 in the league. &#xA;But you hear folks constantly saying how they are pretty good on defense. &#xA;Food for thought
