I starting betting sports in 1980 during what I regard as the heyday of ABC's MNF with Cosell and Meredith. Jimmy the Greek was also making his picks at CBS's pregame show when the league wasn't pretending that people don't wager on the games.
They mentioned how hot the Monday night home dogs had been week after week. Soon the linemakers made an adjustment and the positive EV evaporated.
The same thing happened in the NBA - announcers noticed how the altitude affected teams that had to play the next day after visiting DEN.
This was before the Internet, so what they said created an outsized impact. I am afraid the same things might be occurring now but much more quietly.
Covers gets hundreds or thousands of visitors a day as do other similar handicapping websites. We log on hoping to read sharp insights on individual games or general tips to improve our overall results. My fear is that linemakers/sportsbook managers/clerks are also on the lookout for valuable information.
A clerk working for Michael Roxborough might relay a shrewd observation and the resulting adjustment might hurt our EV for more than just one game.
Should we post our systems/queries with explanations or just the winning percentages?
Yes - post our insights and share our wisdom
No - protect the lines and get by without the adulation
TIA.

Wow - I never thought of sinister sabotage.
I'll take that as a No vote.

I'd say share the information. Because the books will respond to cash flow (of bets coming in due to valuable info) before finding the info itself. Therefore the line will have moved anyway, naturally.

No, I am not concerned about one game. What bothers me is if someone posts a brilliant query with the explanation that shows that "Road dogs wearing purple socks coming off 2 losses of 17+ points cover at a 71.2% rate," all future games will have tighter spreads if somebody spots this and relays the information to Michael "Roxy" Roxborough or William Hill.
I'd rather have that 71.2% rate of confidence and have the poster omit the explanation to make sure future games have juicier lines.

Agreed. Plus, an explanation by technical/micro cappers who run algorithms and such would fly over most people's heads anyway so there's no point.

Yes we should share our info. First off, I do not believe we have a significant effect ( really any effect ) on the line. Second, the point spread is way off a considerable amount of time from the actual results. Third, are our population numbers on Covers enough to affect the line ? Fourth, if the bookies give us a line we do not like, we can skip the game.

I million percent correct. The trolls are here for that reason. I can also say this is why this site deleted the history tabs for everyone's plays. They do not want the average guy in here knowing who the solid cappers are. It's bad for the books. You can spot the guys with the hidden agendas a mile away and god forbid you do well in here; the trolls and paid puds will do their toughest work to troll you and lead others in the other way. Just go through the threads and you will see. You could go 10-2 in a week and like clockwork, the trolls will come in and ambush that poster. This site has turned into a sh@t show and ots the reason why so many great cappers have left.

That is really sad. The Covers forum is going downhill. As viewership falls, advertisers will NOT be happy. The forum changes are self-defeating.
