General overview thought.. In Wildcard weekend, regulation totals went 4-0 under and underdogs went 3-1 ats. Most of the public who shows up for the playoffs and starts betting will think three things - 1) the home teams are off a bye and will be better prepared; 2) the home teams are all better defensively than their opponents; 3) favorites will respond to the poor showing from last weekend.
Minnesota @ San Francisco
I initially leaned under here and Minnesota, and while, I still think the Vikings have a good shot at the upset, are we being smart to back Kirk Cousins to win two straight road spotlight playoff games? Don't get me wrong, he should be getting MVP consideration and while most would scoff at this because he's not flashy, doesn't have the look of a 2020 MVP, and basically is a dork, he has been incredible this season, noting he has compiled his stats despite injuries to Cook, Diggs, and Thielen at the same and different times throughout the year. He seems finally able to keep that chip on his shoulder and prove himself. Speaking of proving yourself, Jimmy G steps into his first playoff game and it's hard to say whether he is ready for that spotlight. He's had a great year, but also has had moments where you question his decision making. These two teams are very similar - the HCs like to pound the ball on the ground and win the game with their defense. Statistically, on the surface, this one points to an under and Vegas seems to be feeding us that chum by setting this game as the lowest total of the weekend. The public has responded and moved this total all the way down to 44. There are no great defenses in the NFL. Period. Some have shown flashes of greatness, but no team defense is great. That being said, these two, in my opinion, are the two best. In every game last weekend, the defenses were better than their opposing offense. This week, however, the offenses are better than the defenses with the exception of this game where it's close. Both teams will be forced to throw the ball and Jimmy G and Kirk are two of the best, statistically, in the play action. Active, ballhawk defenses always lend itself to turnovers and with two QBs who have been good, but also have their own demons, this might play a huge factor in the outcome of the game and the total
