Pats +3.5 or 4 depending on the book...It's always been the hardest to cap pats games because I'm a fan but I don't understand this line.
I know New England has a great D but I don't think their O moves the ball enough to let them rest. Something tells me the eagles won't have a SB hangover and will come out firing. I'm not saying eagles in a blowout but 27-17 feels like the right line to me. I love the insight from this community so would be curious to hear the people backing the Pats here.

Eagles old DC Gannon was mediocre at best...yes the D had a great year statistically but that doesn't tell the full story...he was terrible vs top/upper tier QBs..mahomes, carr, cousins, Prescott and I think rodgers completed over 80% of their passes....he is getting roasted in social media for his speeches at arizonas training camp...they are pretty bad
The OC Steichen was a decent loss though. He called some good games. They promoted the QB coach Brian Johnson who has known Hurts since he was 4 year old...that could be a good and bad thing imo....
Roster is still loaded though...had an insane draft...Jalen Carter has a shot at DROY if he stays healthy...

To be fair...

New eagles DC Desai is supposedly keeping a similar defense but obviously with some different touches and one thing he mentions is being more aggressive...Gannon was very passive to avoid giving up the big play ...but good QBs would torch him in the short/intermediate game

Forgot to add

One concern I would have is the Eagles have a home game on Thursday night vs the Vikings week 2.
I don't like that spot. Teams playing an out of conference road game knowing they have a conference game on a short week is a major look ahead spot.
Also, when you consider these teams played in 2 super bowls in the last i dunno 10 years i could see the powers that be manufacturing a close one.
However I do agree with the poster suggesting they won't keep up offensively. They probably won't but the Eagles had a habit of coasting after a good first half and it could be close if they do that. Also Pats have a good defense that keeps scores respectable.

you might want to look up the crazy stat where like the last 25 Super Bowl losers lose the first game of the season ATS. It is one of the most profitable trends ever.

Josh Allen thinks about it every night.

Completely agree about Bill O'Brien being a MAJOR upgrade for Mac Jones and the offense... the talent gap seems too wide for me. Jalen Carter and pressure up the middle will disrupt Mac but I will admit, 4-21 ATS off a SB loss is very hard to ignore...
With that being said, it's best if I sit back and see the game play out... maybe a live bet once I get a feel. My lean is still Eagles on the cover but the sentiment against it does have me wavering.

Rust will definitely play a factor. I could be buying into the Jalen Hurts leadership hype but I see him as a no nonsense all about football guy. I tend to bet on teams that have strong leaders in the locker room and a team that will fight the extra inch for their captain.
I've been critical of Bill and his ability to fill the roster with a threat outside of Stevenson. I'm not sold on the Pats moving the ball consistently vs press man coverage and stacking the box

@cusefan8711 The Pats have a new OC in Bill O'Brien. He has to be an improvement over Matt Patricia, it'd be impossible not to. The Eagles had a superb year. But they lost BOTH their coordinators to promotion. No one ever thinks that these things matter until they do. Good Luck
O'Brien's no improvement over anyone he's a loser and a Retard horrible was a horrible head coach in Houston. He was the OC for Alabama last year I heard the Tide alumni were thrilled to get rid of him .
Mac Jones blows anyway he's a weenie and the major problems on the offensive line .
Patriots will be bottom feeders of AFC East 5-12 or 6-11 . Mac Jones and Belichick both history last year .

Spreads always dictate the game. Vegas is Vegas because of the way people like you and the way that you think nobody in their right mind would take New England watchWhat happens ….personally, I’m staying away.

While I tend to agree, like you saw with Colorado in week 1, early in the season the books can be wrong on teams and some lines are very off. By weeks 3-4 they become razor sharp and it's more difficult to spot a bad line. Not saying the Pats can't cover and or win, but I believe the books are overpricing the NE offense which I believe will be slow, antiquated and will feel the lack of no real playmakers.

Please don't candycoat your remarks. Happen to agree about O'Brien and wonder just how long before Belichick hangs with that QB? BB isn't getting any younger either?
