It wasn't a false start, they were flageed for simulating a snap????

The shifting was legal, and the call was bullshit.

You couldn't be more wrong. The chance of not getting the 4th down conversion is much higher than the chance of missing a 29 field goal. While that may not be convenient for your IND -3 bet, it is the right move.

I understand the process -  a free first down there for offsides and they get to run out the clock and kick the FG.

I have no problem with it as a fan, makes sense.

Dungy had every right to be pissed off.

And a :10 runoff would have in theory helped the Colts at that point (provided the FG was good)

That kind of shifting at any other point in the game would not draw a flag.  However, they were obviously trying to draw SD offside.  SD knew it was coming and the refs knew it was coming (no hesitation on flag) but it backfired.

By the way, the same kick from five yards closer is gonna be good.  They tried to be tricky and it cost them the game.

that is the key right there-- it wasnt a false start.  30 more seconds should have been allowed to run off unless the chargers (who are known for making boneheaded plays such as last years playoffs when the defender intercepts and promptly fumbles vs new england)  had crossed the neutral zone. 

in any event, i am shocked vinatieri missed that field goal.  dont forget this is the guy that kicked that 45 yard knuckleball in the snow bowl vs.  Oakland as well as 2 walk off super bowl game winners. that qualifies as being pretty fucking clutch. 

Then why would it draw one at the end of the game? Do they have different rules at different times?

I'm not talking about the 4th down conversion, rather the conservative play callings when they got down there. They should've at least tried to get in the endzone instead of playing for the last possession.
