Does anyone here think this Colts team would be a playoff team without Manning???  I would like to hear a reasonable argument.  He single handedly has taken Indy to the playoffs and won the SB by his great ability to control games and make clutch throws.  WIthout him, the Colts are just another middle of the pack team in the AFC..Give the guy some respect..

Agreed, I don't think it's fair to talk about his rank all time when he has around 5-7 years left.  Elway didn't win 1 until he was 37 and then another at 38.  Who knows what happens the rest of his career and as a Colts fan I think the Colts as a team lost that game last night and they won the games before that.  Sure he has a greater impact but he can't guard onside kicks, guard 4 different N.O receivers who were given an incredible amount of cushion, or pass rush Brees who had all day to stand back there.

Not to mention I think one of the most important plays was Garcon's drop where Manning put it right on his chest which could have easily been a TD making it 17-3.

Guy makes one bad throw and suddenly he's incompetent.

I don't think anyone is questioning how good he is but when people say he is the best qb ever I have a problem with that

with Curtis Painter as QB the Colts would be lucky to win 2 games. Put a stiff like Alex smith or J Russell on the Colts and you'd win 3 games.

Also it is clear that either Reggie Wayne ran a bad route on the INT, or he gave up on the ball and let the Int happen. Worst case, Wayne should  have broken up the Int even if it is Pass interference. If that Int happens, we may be talking about the Colts winning the first overtime super bowl...

Manning is a good QB no doubt. But to rank him up there with the all time greats is very pre mature. Manning has a 9-9 post season record at this point which is not good. He is 1-1 in Super Bowls.

Tom Brady

Troy Aikman

Those are 4 off the top of my head that rank way above him right now. We all rank these QB'S by what they do in the post season and how many rings they win. With that said, would I take Jim Kelly or Fran Tarkenton or Dan marino on my team? They never managed to win 1 between them, but the answer is hell yea I would. At the end of his carrer then and only then will it be fair to rank Manning's spot in history.

Here is your lesson for today.  All 4 QBs you mention above had great defenses.  Peyton and Marino can't say the same.

Lol Aikman! The guy who threw 20 TD's only once during his career. He benefited form having a great all around team and a great defense. Tom Brady, spygate and had a great defense. Terry Bradshaw had the best defense of all time on his side. Give me a fucking break.

I think that if Peyton Manning wins 2 more superbowls....

then he will go down as the greatest of all time....

but if he doesn't....

then he's just another top dawg....

they gave up tons of late points and scoring drives in every Super Bowl they played in.They were playing vs good teams but they did

I think the onus is more on the defense than Manning.

For your team to not take ANY turnovers, blow an onside kick and lose because of one turnover says plenty about how the Indy defense failed in the game.

Manning had great numbers, made one mistake..they should have been able to overcome one mistake..

Tartkenton was a great QB, and he played on a team with a great defense, and he never won a Super Bowl........ so what is the connection to anything that has to do with this thread, which is about Manning, who is a great QB, who plays on a team that doesn't have a great QB, but has won a Super Bowl........

Didn't the Colts lose their best receiver and two of their best defensive players?  Marvin Harrison was the receiver (finally remembered). Sanders has been out, Dwight Freeney  was nursing a torn ligament in his ankle and was at about 80% the first half and about 40%.  Not making excuses, they won their way to the SB without them.  I just don't think you can put it all on Peyton (and I had the Saints ML for a small amount).  I have learned to not make the SB my big game of the year, Patriots/Giants taught me that.
