Has it always been this way at this point in the season? Why so many God awful teams. Seems like the teams currently 1-6 in the playoff standings will pretty much be guaranteed a playoff spot

Maybe not always, but it sure seems like the overall quality of football has not been good for at least 5 years.
You can blame a lot of this on two things-
I’m on this forum regularly pointing out the absolutely putrid coaches that make up the NFL. It gets worse every year. Some of these guys are completely clueless. I am watching games these days in complete awe. I just can’t believe what I’m watching anymore.
#2. Horrible QB play. I’m not going to go too deep into this but overall it’s bad. We’re at the point where Daniel Jones is a backup qb making 40 million a year. Anthony Richardson is a starting quarterback. Derek Carr is a starting quarterback. Some will disagree with this. But I watch every single game every week. NFL football is at or very close to a low point.

Its true, can't remember as many bad or certainly less than average teams at this point in the season in awhile. Definitely not what the NFL wants.

Can blame on coaching. Analytical is killing it too. I don’t recall teams going on 4th down a lot and failing at it too. Punt or kick the field goal.

NFL Gameday Morning just did one of the best segments I’ve ever seen on the show. The question on the bottom of the screen was “Is there a problem with developing quarterbacks in the NFL?”. Rich Eisen, Steve Mariucci, and Kurt Warner all say YES.
Warner- College QBs are not being taught how to play the position properly. Although there is benefits to being an athletic qb, the fundamentals of the position require a good QB to be a pocket passer.
Mariucci- QBs don’t sit and develop anymore. They’re taken from college, thrown into a bad situation, and expected to perform. They are simply not ready to compete at the pro level in most cases.
Eisen- College football is about winning now and not developing qb skill sets.
It’s one of the reasons I personally hate college football. I can’t stand watching QBs play RB. It’s not the purpose of the position and it doesn’t translate well into the pro game in most situations.
