If you have a prolific offense and a weak ass defense, the name of the game is to increase the number of possessions for your offense by any means necessary. Teams like the Lions and Buffalo and Tampa should not be trying to shorten the game because the more your offense has the ball the more opportunities it will have to score and stay ahead of the other teams less talented offense.
With that said, here is what Bowles should have done at the end of that game.
With that piece of shit defense of his, and the way Washington was moving the ball, Kick the FG. Tie the game. Then do an onside kick to either get the ball back or give Washington a short field so they can’t waste the entire clock. If your defense can hold them to a FG, great. You still have time to get the ball back. If they score a TD, you still have a chance to tie.
Alternatively, you can tell your defense to let the Commanders get to your 10 yard line, tackle them there and and then make them try to score, which would give your outstanding offense two minutes to win or tie the game depending on if Washington scored a FG or TD.
These coaches are not thinking outside the box or preparing for different situations the way they should. It’s hard to believe they are still playing the game the way their grandfathers played it.

Bucs down 20-17 had ball 4th and 3 at Washington 14 yard line with 4:45 left in the game.
Washington had not punted at all the entire game. 0 punts forced by TB defense.
Bowles elected to kick the FG knowing full well his offense might not see the ball again because his defense hadn't forced a punt the entire game.
4th and 3 on Washington 14.. Go for it you freaking coward. Worst case, it’s Wash ball on their own 14. I believe if Bucs convert on 4th and 3, they win the game.

But that again creates the possibility of not having the ball last. If they don’t get the first down, Washington can still run out the clock and kick a FG. I am proposing a new solution to an old problem.
