Why does everyone reference "Vegas"??

Just curious why everyone always references Vegas? "Vegas never loses" "theres a reason why Vegas has billion dollar casinos ". or someone will talk about some idiot who knows someone who works in a cage in Vegas and saw someone place a million-dollar bet.

Is that just a generic term? Because I'd guess that less than 1% of the money wagered on any sports is actually placed in Vegas. Who gives a flying F about Vegas?

vegas is easier to say and type than costa rica.  

but many years ago, the stardust in vegas was legendary for setting opening lines etc.

the bigger picture none of you ever look at is just like the winning percentage a table host for blackjack gets at a casino. There is always a higher probability for the house.

In sports with added juice and often having an underdog on any given match the house always wins with bets going either way and juice on one, no matter if 60% of people are going one way, there are so many matches hosted in a night that the house never takes a hit and always wins. There is way too much $ coming in for a sportsbook that if they ever announce that they are losing a lot of money at some point, don't take it seriously

Throw in the parlays-and the books margins are huge.

Vegas sets the line and we get to decide which side to wager on. The unsophisticated bettor generally
chooses the wrong side.That's how we have all the
great monuments to stupidity here in Las vegas.
Think about that the next time you make a bet and
take the time and effort to make the proper choice.

Vegas must love these kinda super bowls where the money is fairly evenly dispersed ... As silly as it sounds Vegas probably doesn't like to gamble ... With The bets cancelling eachother out and taking the juice on the losses being a sure win

People say "Vegas" because they need an answer for their loss.  Some kind of atonement they use to ease the pain of a bad beat.

You would think they would say "public" or "myself," because really, at the end of the day, they represent the mass group of boneheads that help establish and set the line in the first place.

But in today's world the last place one would ever point the finger when trying to find the culprit of a losing bet is the mirror.  It's always somebody else's fault.  Usually the ignorant like to blame "the man," or the one with the money that caused the hurt.

Reference the occupy protest movement.
