Congrats to the Czech Republic, Canada, Sweden and Switzerland on advancing to the final four at the men’s world championships of ice hockey. Once again the Americans leave without a medal to show for their efforts after being blanked by the Czechs. Canada moves forward in an attempt to repeat as Gold medal champions.
Go Canada Go!!!

Some great hockey was played for certain. Been very entertaining. Congrats on Team Canada advancing I am sure you are proud and should be. They have to be the odds on favorite to strike gold. But dude was that a diss on Team USA? 1 rip against a good Czech team isn't horrible. As you know the puck can bounce many ways. If they lost 9 rip I would have a very different opinion. BOL!

Feel like it was response to a thread from awhile back. It was an entertaining game, Czechs aren’t afraid to face wash after whistle. Can’t believe there isn’t a Tkachuk on the team.
Just for the record.

Hope all is well in your life Doc, health, golf and all. Just having a bit of fun. Am enjoying the tournament though. Hopefully Binnington can hold up. One thing Canada is not producing anymore is goaltenders. Don’t know why or how that became a thing. All I can think is you almost need yo be rich to have your kids in hockey here now and goalie equipment for a growing kid makes it next level insanity so I’m sure many parents deter their kids from playing the position. I go to my little great nephews games and it’s not uncommon for one team to not even have a goalie now.

I know you are..saw the title of the thread and just busted out laughing...I can only imagine the cost to have a kid that is totally into hockey. Same with golf, the sport is out pricing itself.
On another topic, as a Southerner, with limited hockey experience outside of the last 12 years, I am looking forward to the Memorial Cup. Followed it last year, made money and enjoyed the tournament. Love the concept.
Ignore the trash and give some input from time to time.

My kid played USHL and now D1 hockey as a goalie and I can tell you first hand his "education, training, equipment, travel costs, billet fees, etc, etc, etc, etc" could have bought a moderate home. We used to billet an Ontario and a Quebec goalie years ago. The Ontario kid now has an AHL contract and the Quebec kid quit hockey due to the mental health issues of playing the goalie position at a high level. The Q-League used to be where it was at if you were a goalie. Go play there and you show the scouts what you got. Everything has changed. Now seems like scouts have fallen in love with Scandinavian and Russian goalies. Time will tell.

Czech republic is a size of Wisconsin….as a normal European state there are a lot of towns and in each mid to large town there is a hockey team …. Each team has adults, juniors and at least 3 younger teams from 8-14 …. We have a great goalkeeper history… in 80 when we played in Canada Cup …. Holecek, Dzurilla, Crha on our side….. Vachon, Chevers on your side… then the new generation creates Dominik Hasek and all little kids want to be like him…. Which means more kids want to play the position…. Now in NHL we have ( a nation of 10 million people) 6-7 goalies in the nhl…. You have to make the youngest kids excited and fine them a real hero who leads by example and then you will get more kids in Canada or US who will want to play the position and not to want last score 100 goals…

Unfortunately goal scorers will always be paid more than a goalie. So if your kid wants to play goal, most parents would discourage them from playing that position because of the costs associated with the equipment. Good goaltenders are hard to find, and its a position most HNL teams spend little time developing. It's sad but true.

Thank you. It has been a long and expensive road. Goalies get too much blame and too much credit at times. He has lived away from home most of the year since he was 14.
